It's not anything as dramatic as a REAL woman (he better not!! haha) or a new dog (now that's something I wouldn't mind...but he says NO!) or a new car (one of these days, but not yet). In fact, it's not really exciting to anyone but Andy...altho I sorta like her too. I even named her.
Andy's birthday was June 25 and I was a bit slow on getting him a gift. Actually there was a reason for my tardiness. I'll explain...
We recently went on a long 11 day road trip out east and we had so much fun. We rented a car so if there were any car problems to deal with, it would be up to someone else to get us a new car and get us back on the road. We both have rather elderly cars and I didn't want that many miles put on my car and Andy's truck does have that many miles left in it. We drove well over 3,000 miles! (When I say "WE" I mean Andy...he drove the entire way...my hero!!) Anyway, when we stopped in to pick up the rental car they asked us if we wanted a GPS gadget to take with us. Andy said "No, thanks" at the same time I said "Yes, please". He gave in and we got Garvin Garmen. Well, that's what we named him. It was one of the best decisions we made on the entire trip. He got us thru all the big cities we went thru and all the back roads in the Adirondack mountains and all the unknown places we visited. We got so comfortable with Garvin that we decided we needed one when we got home. I told Andy I'd get one for our birthdays and we could share.
While we were at Best Buy getting my new computer Friday, I checked out the computer aisle while Andy hurried over to check out the Garmen's. He picked out a sleek, sultry little machine and we brought it home. We didn't know it's gender until we programmed it (we stopped at the river park to do that since you can't drive and fiddle with it...I guess it's a safety thing). Out came this sexy voice...a female voice. I was a bit disappointed, I loved Garvin and he had the coolest voice. Well, I named her Carmen...and gave her and Andy my blessings.
He's not from around here and has a bit of a problem finding places when I'm not with him. In Carmen's good care, I have no doubt he can find any place he needs to go with ease and confidence.

Carmen is much sleeker and more svelte than the short, chubby Garvin...so I don't think they are related other than maybe at a great distance. But I know Carmen will take as good a care of us where ever we go as Garvin did in crazy New York City traffic!
I'll tell you more about the trip in my next installment...and I'll even post some pictures if I get them on here with no probs.
How fun! All the places you'll go :-)

ReplyDeleteDeleted the prior because of a typo (HORRORS!).
ReplyDeleteWe call our GPS "Racquel". (Wondered why you were so calm about a new woman in Andy's life!!)
Can't wait to see photos of your trip.
I'm so directionally challenged. It took forever for me to say yes to getting a GPS but I bought mine on Black Friday 2007. An inexpensive TomTom. It's been worth it's weight in gold. It leads, I follow.
