Late last week I tried to log onto my old PC. It was more like "slogging" on. That poor old machine was so slow it even creaked and groaned as it tried to bring up a web browser ...much like me when I get out of bed in the morning. I sat here for a total of 35 minutes and still no browser. The old PC was starting to choke and smoke and that's when an epiphany hit me. I needed a new computer and needed it bad!!
So, I got out my laptop ...it's a newer model Toshiba and is still doing pretty good on the speed thang...and I looked up Best Buy's site and their ad for the week. They had advertised "all-in-one" computers with all the works in the monitor case. Sort of like a laptop on a platform. There was an all-in-one Mac and altho I had never heard of the all-in-one thing before that day, I set my mind and that was pretty much what I was planning on getting for my next computer.
I had one by that afternoon...even tho I had to drive to Iowa to get one...they were out in our store here on my side of the river.
I've always been a PC person...computer-wise that is...altho I like to think it's in both ways. But had been told by my late son and a couple of his good friends...all computer gurus....that Mac was the ONLY way to go and that I wouldn't have to worry about viruses as much or about learning to use the Mac OS because it was pretty much like Windows, only easier. Or at the least, more logical. I'm not the most logically minded person in the world...mentally I tend more toward the ethereal and artsy. But it's been a snap so far. I have only had a few glitches of my own doing, but I am getting more and more comfortable with this as the days go by.
I have a Mac laptop and was just starting to get comfortable with that when I suddenly couldn't get it to connect with my wireless router. I put it away and haven't had it out since. Yes, I am computer poor!
Anyway, I digress. I bought this gorgeous computer...nobody's got nuttin' on Apple when it comes to design. This thing is so sleek and streamlined and it's just pretty! Every little thing is so well figured out and made. I had read the reviews on Best Buy's site and this computer got a 5 (out of 5) the only con being that the mouse cord was too short. I figured that out too.
Andy helped me set this up and he plugged the mouse right into the computer itself. I was dinkin' around with the keyboard and realized that there were two ports on it...at either end of the little wedge that keeps the keyboard from resting flat on the table and raises it up a little in back so it's easier to type on. There's plenty of mouse cord if you do it right. One more of Apple's impressive design features. I'd be willing to bet that the folks who complained about the short mouse cord just didn't know where to plug it in.
Speaking of the keyboard...the thing is only 4" X 11" and is about 1/4" thick. It's got full sized keys on it and feels just like any other keyboard. Shoot, you could get 8-9 of them in a regular sized shoebox!
Here are a couple pix...I laid a doily on the base...wish I hadn't so you all could see the pretty brushed silver color better! This is all of it...no tower, no other superfluous junk! Just a monitor, keyboard and mouse.
A thing of beauty is a joy forever.

I'll be having an Apple a day...or at least I'll be using an Apple a day...or two or three.
P.S. Andy has a new lady in his life...her name is Carmen...I'll be posting about that next time I stop by.
Ah, technology. Can't live with it, can't live without it. Congrats on your new iMac! That's pretty much the computer I have at home although I have 8 not-particularly nice looking stripes down my screen. I'm not sure it can be fixed so I might be getting a new 'puter as well.
ReplyDeleteWhoa Ginn! That thing is fantastic!!! I used Macs in my classroom and found in some ways I liked their programs better. I absolutely love the screen!
ReplyDeleteWhen you said you had to drive to Iowa it about knocked me out! Then I realized it's like me driving to DC ! :)
So how was the vacation?
Hooray for new toys!
ReplyDeleteCongrats and now I am on the edge of my seat to hear about Carmen. LOL
ReplyDeleteXOXO
There's an Apple in my eye, but not in my life. Lucky you!
