With that in mind, I decided to use only the best cleansers and creams. But have you priced stuff like that lately? I get a catalog from a place called DHC and their stuff is awesome but it's sooooo expensive, I just can't make myself pay that kind of money for creams oils and lotions to take makeup off and moisturize my skin. No matter how badly I want to have great skin, not just good skin, I can't justify that expense. DHC sends me a catalog every so often (thanks Jackster!) and it used to have samples in it. Not sure why the last couple haven't had any samples unless it's because I haven't purchased anything from them lately. Anyway, I have a few samples of their Olive Oil cleanser and I tried it at the advice of my friend Betty. It pretty much just looked like regular old olive oil and it did a great job of cleaning off my makeup and making my skin feel very soft.
I, being the creative soul that I am, decided that I could make my own. I got online and did a little bit of research and found a recipe. I did more research and with some knowledge of my own from making a healing lotion for my horses when I had horses many years ago, I came up with a recipe of my own. I shopped online and did some local shopping too, to come up with all the ingredients, I have a few things coming from Amazon. I was too impatient to wait for them to get here so I whipped up a batch with the things I had on hand and I loveLoveLOVE it! It takes off every bit of makeup, even my waterproof mascara and leaves my skin so soft I haven't needed to use moisturizer at night after I take off my makeup with it. It's very simple and natural.
The recipe is very experimental at this point, so I'm not giving any cleanser out to friends or family yet, but altho I'm loving what it does so far, I do want to make sure my face doesn't fall off before I let anyone else try it.

If you're interested in the recipe, let me know. With a few simple ingredients and an immersion blender, you're in business! It turns out very creamy and lotion-like. I made it last Friday night, it's still very thick and creamy and lovely. It holds up very well, or so it seems. You can see how it stands up when dumped in a blob on the table, in that lousy photo above. The only drawback at this point is that I had no real fragrance oils to use, so it smells like olive oil. Not a bad thing if you're a salad, but not for skin! I have some rose water and lavender water and an ingredient with peppermint coming to remedy that. I'm all about the smell of lotion. It has to smell good, that's one of my triggers to relax and sleep well...a good smelling lotion aura around me.
I vill be in the lab-OR-atory, Igor.
****I whistle because I have tinitis from listening to too much loud music in the 60's, my ears ring like crazy. So I whistle so I can't hear the ringing when it's too quiet. My dad used to do the same thing...whistle... for the same reason...ringing ears... but his wasn't loud music in the 60's it was from being in WW2 and getting shell shock. He's more deaf now, so the ringing doesn't bother him anymore. Besides, if he tried to whistle, he'd blow his dentures across the room!
1. I whistle, too. Not because of ringing in my ears, but I always seem to have a song in my head!
ReplyDelete2. Your chem lab sounds great! Might I suggest citrus scented/infused olive oil (Temecula Olive Oil Company)? I've got it in my kitchen, but frequently use it on my hands. Also, sweet almond oil is available at most drug stores and has a pleasant scent.
3. I use glycolic products on my face. I notice that many of the good products used to decrease puffiness have rosemary in them. Food for thought.
4. Speaking of food -- did you ever get recipes you had asked for for covered dish dinners and such?
Oh, a friend of mine suffered from ear ringing for years. He took something and it disappeared. I'll contact him and see what it was.
ReplyDeleteThat would be great to know Kathy!! I'd love to quiet these bells in my head! If you can find out what stops it, let me know. Thanks a million!!
ReplyDeleteIf you have any good recipes, please share them!! I got a few good ones, but I'm always open to new ideas. Especially things I can alter to make them diety.
What a smart thing to do! I hope you'll post updates as to your new skin regimen. I don't know if you have access to aloe vera plant, but if you do, cut a spear open and smooth that jelly-like stuff on your skin. Let it dry and then rinse with warm water. I love the smoothness that results. My mom also eats that clear jelly stuff from the aloe vera (try not to taste it because it's BITTER). It's supposed to be good for digestion and smooth skin - from the inside out!
ReplyDeleteyour skin care goop sounds yummy! lol Good luck with it. I got some Sweeza stuff for Christmas. Smells great and i LOVE it. And it's blue...interesting...it's probably expensive...as in not a WalMart price...but it makes my face feel fabulous.
ReplyDeleteI can't whistle but i hum continuously....drives people around me crazy too. What else is there to do when a song gets stuck in your head??? Hum or whistle right?
Happy new year kiddo!
If you keep creating in the lab you may have to give up your day job and become a millionaire!
ReplyDeleteAnne, I have taken aloe vera capsules in the past. That way you don't have to taste it!!
ReplyDeletett, a fabulous face is a good thing!!
Brad, I'm too lazy to become a millionaire. But if I did, I'd just have to live with it. LOL
Wow, I didn't know you could eat aloe vera.
ReplyDeleteThat is so smart of you Ginni to put that all together. I have heard that olive oil is really great for your skin. I have the other problem - my face is OILY to the max.
I've ordered a few things from DHC but stopped because of the cost! A bar of soap was $15, and although I liked it, I could buy similar stuff for a buck!
ReplyDeleteI've read that making your own cleansers and moisturizers work just as well as store-bought stuff. Some celebrities and other wealthy folks pay $700 an ounce for some special moisturizer--when the end result is that they get old anyway!

PS, Good luck on your diet! I too started the New Year with a plan to lose some weight.
I'm too worried about my skin!! Thanks for the advice about skincare products!!
