Hair...NOT the 60's play
I have long hair. It's longer than hair should be on a woman my age and advancing grayness! I'm getting it cut today. I'm not sure how short I'll have the nerve to go, but it will be much shorter than it is, that's for sure! I'm going to spend some time looking at hair dos on the internet before I go to the hairdresser and maybe print out a photo or two to show her. She's an artist and my hair always feels so good when she's done cutting it. It feels thicker, and much nicer. A good cut makes so much difference. I can't wait for it to just be done so I can blow dry it faster, style it more and not have such a hunk of hair to blow dry after I swim. The driers at the "Y" are so wimpy, I've been just leaving with wet hair because I'd be there an extra half hour to get it to dry with them.
Beds by the number!
My son had a Select Comfort Sleep Number bed and I have it at my house now. Andy got it all set up after I looked up the directions on the internet to find out how. Thank God for the internet, you can find almost anything you ever wanted to know on here! Anyway, I laid down on that bed for the first time ever yesterday afternoon and was it ever comfortable!! I guess a $3K bed should be pretty comfy. I have no idea what my "number" would be, but I know 45 felt pretty darned good. I like a soft bed. Andy set it up in the spare bedroom (the one that used to be the den) and I'll probably sleep on it when my back acts up. He'll use it occasionally too. We both have backs that flare up once in a while. Heck, I may just sleep on it for the helluvit sometimes!! The problem is, Andy and I can't both sleep on it at once because even tho it's a Queen-sized bed, it's the kind that's for only one person...one air pillow inside and one control. So we'll take turns. Now I have to figure out how to learn what my number is...I just may have to go to the store and try one out there to get my official number.
Electric Avenue
We were doing laundry yesterday afternoon after I got home from my busy sister day. For some reason the power went off in the socket the washer and dryer were plugged in to. It didn't trip the breaker switch, it just wouldn't work. We had to get a heavy duty extension cord and plug it in to a socket in the other room to finish doing laundry. Thank God, Andy thought of the fact that the freezer is spun off from that socket too. We could have lost a lot of frozen meat if he hadn't thought of that because the freezer was indeed off. When we got done with laundry, we plugged the freezer in with that cord. Anyway, I put a call in to an electrician and he's supposed to call us Monday. I wonder how much that's going to cost?? My brother-in-law is an electrician but he just finished his 6-month round of chemo on Thursday and isn't feeling up to doing any extra work yet, I don't think. I don't even want to ask him, he's such a nice guy I'm afraid he would feel obligated. I will just deal with another electrician until he's better...then I have a lot of work for him to do!
We've got a sleep number too. Love that bed! It was the only way to get a king size upstairs in this old house. I'm a 45, but I like it firm. Jay's a 25 leaving quite the ledge to fall off of, mono controls prob'ly best :-)
ReplyDeleteI can't wait to see what you do with your hair. Shorter hair is SOOO much easier.
ReplyDeleteSo how did you get it cut?
ReplyDeleteI used to think that, too -- that women of a certain age should not have longer hair, but I've seen lots of women who have long hair who are older than I -- and it looks lovely. I have been keeping my hair very short for the past 5 years and now I'd like to have it at least shoulder length -- so that when I work out I can pull it up. It is harder to care for - even at this below the ear length and it takes much longer to dry. But I've even been playing with rollers! Remember them? I can always change my mind and get it cut again....
I'll try to get a picture of my hair. It's much shorter than I've had in years! I love it so far. Of course I haven't had to "do" it myself yet...LOL I like it because my hair felt so thin when it was long, now it actually feels thick!!
ReplyDeleteBrad, those beds are so comfy, and when we saw it in pieces we were stumped on how to put it back together. Thank goodness there were instructions on the internet!
Kathy, I didn't mean all women my age look bad with long hair...just me!! LOL I've had a stressful summer and it took a terrible toll on the health of my hair. It was getting so thin and nasty. It feels so much better now that I've gotten it cut. If you want long hair...I say go for it!!!
You've been a busy writer and I love reading your stuff.
ReplyDeleteHow's the swimming coming? Do you use a swim cap? I wet my hair first, then put mine on, then the goggles. I have raccoon eyes after that. And, I bring my own blowdryer. It takes me an hour to swim and stretch and a half hour to shower and do the rest. A big block of time, but worth it.
