Re-decorating

Basement Decor

Since we had a dumpster again and had a pitching party with more things from the basement...we got most of the things out we needed out and now we're re-decorating the basement. It was supposed to be a winter project, but it's turning into a fall project instead.

Yesterday we got the three messed up ceiling tiles replaced, all the ceiling tiles painted and the paneled walls primed so they can be painted. We are trying really hard to make this basement room as bright as possible since the entire room has only one window. We're painting the entire thing white...bright white. We'll add color by accessorizing, using bright colors for floring, curtains, throw pillows, etc. I love picking things out to use to decorate and will try my best to make it a bright happy place.

There are quite a few things to do down there. At the rate we're going we'll have it done in no time. We still need to paint the entire thing, part of which is poured concrete walls that look like brick...those are a real pain to paint! We can use a roller but then have to go in with a brush and fill in the places that would be mortar if they were real bricks. It will look great when it's done, but it will be a big job. Then we have to paint the paneled walls which should be very easy. Then put in new flooring, put trim and baseboard all around the corners and floor.

We are also dividing the large space into a bedroom and a living area/exercise room/craft and puzzle room/TV room. But we won't put a wall, maybe just screens, drapes or something easy to move or take away if we want to. I have an extra bed and will put it in the bedroom. It's going to be fun to decorate these two spaces. I'm going for the spacious look with mirrors, bright colors and light furniture.

I have a ton of exercise equipment that's been used to hang things on, lay things on, or stack things on for the past couple years. In fact, it's been used for everything BUT it's intended purpose. I will finally be able to use them all again and that's going to be good. I'm really glad I'll be able to get into doing a weight workout a few times a week once again! And I'd love to get into shape to do some cross-country skiing again, so the NordicTrack will be put to good use! It going to be good to have some other choices for a workout here at home instead of just my treadmill. Of course, you know, these are all INTENDED pursuits...whether or not they come to be is up for grabs! They say, the road to hell is paved with good intentions! The road to a perfect exercise regimen is too! I do get on my treadmill everyday and have since July 1st. I haven't missed a day of doing some walking. Some days I go out to walk but mostly I do the treadmill. It goes fast because I can watch TV while I do it. It's hard for me to just sit and watch TV...seems I have to multi-task to be able to watch. So walking while my favorite shows are on is perfect.

Anyway, the most fun will be shopping for curtains, furniture, and all the cool accessories. This means I'll be buying and reading from cover to cover every decorator magazine I can find! Luckily I already get Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens and a few other mags like that. They usually have some good decorating ideas in them.

Green Thumb Sunday (Ooops..a day early..this happens when I take Friday off!)

  2. That sounds like an ambitious project, but I think you'll love the redone space.
