It's raining here...

...we need the rain.

It always excites me when I can actually grow something. I guess it's not so much that I doubt my ability to be a farmer, but that to take a tiny little seed and end up with a spinach leaf or a radish...it just blows my mind every time! A garden is like a playground of tiny miracles!

My veg beds are looking good and I attribute it to the fact that it's finally warming up and that we've had rain just when we've needed it all along. I think I've only watered it once or twice. Andy just put fertilizer on the lawn in the rose garden so that's working out well. We've had 8/10ths of an inch already. That will do nicely! This pic was taken on last Thursday and the veggie beds have changed like you wouldn't believe, since then!

The potato tank is doing great too. I can't believe that the potatoes are already almost as high as the top of the tank! Considering that they started only 6" from the bottom, it amazes me to almost be able to watch them grow. Here's a recent pic of them.

I'm thrilled, I discovered that one of my very most favorite roses was in bloom. I didn't have the camera with me so I don't have any pix of it in bloom, but I did bring a couple of the blooms in to put in a vase. It's called Tamara and it's a David Austin English rose. It has the scent of myrrh which I just love. It's an acquired taste, I'm told. It's rather like licorice or anise, which I also love! It is one of those roses that makes my mouth water.

  1. Your an inspiration - I've been putting off building rasied beds long enough - had them at the old house and have missed them ever since. This weekend I'm on a mission. Hope your having fun today !

Wonder if I can find Rocky & Bullwinkle on you tube...hmmm.

  2. I haven't planted any "crops" this year. I keep wondering if I'll regret it. But maybe taking a year off will give me renewed desire to start again next year.

  3. Brad, we figured with gas prices being so ridiculous, groceries will be too. Therefore...we decided to plant veggies! I will replace whatever veggies we use up with another crop in the empty section, as the summer goes on. I love the raised beds, so much easier on my back! Rocky and Bullwinkle Rock!!! I'll have to look on YouTube. ;)

Ruth, you have a lot on your plate right now...I'm sure you'll plant a crop again when you can. I haven't had any kind of crops for a couple years and I was ready! :)

  4. The roses are beautiful!

My only crop is the tomatoes in the squirrel-proof cage. So far so good. I just put the basil in there with them because the squirrels thought the dirt was meant to play in.

It's raining here too. I'm so excited! It didn't start till after 8 PM. I hope it lasts all night!

  6. So cool to see all the stuff you're growing, Ginni. I love Tamara, too, but she's a slow rebloomer for me. Of my Austins, I think Molineux is the most floriferous, followed by Pat Austin, WS2K, and Ambridge Rose.
