In search of roses

Yesterday I went, camera in hand, to see if I had any rose blooms. Here's what I found...

Paradise...the first rose to bloom this year. I've had this rose since my very first attempt to grow roses back in 2002. It's managed to survive a few rough winters, some physical abuse...it was severely broken off by accident a couple of times, being moved once, and my questionable care.

Dainty Bess...I love this rose and was so surprised that it made it thru another tough winter. I've almost lost this one a couple of times and was just sure it wasn't going to make it this year. It seemed to struggle so much last season. I was just going around to see if this one made it thru the winter and here's what I found...

Amy Grant...this mini-rose is such a wonderful rose. It's a bloom machine and I wasn't surprised at all that it was in bloom, in fact, it had been blooming for a while because I had to deadhead a few blooms already.

Raindrops...a cute little mini that is also a survivor!

This one is not a rose, but it's that Mystery Clematis that I discovered was growing earlier this spring and didn't know what it was. Well, it's definitely Nelly Moser, I found quite a few blooms wide-opened yesterday. If you remember, I said it reminded me of Dainty Bess because of it's color and it's maroon "eyelashes" or stamens. I think it's neat that I have a fresh photo of that rose to show you side by side with Nelly...

  1. Yipee! The show is beginning at Ginni's garden. That Dainty Bess is so sweet, and aptly named.

  2. I really like that Paradise. I don't think I've ever heard of it before.

I've toyed with the idea of getting Nelly Moser for a long, long time. Your photos are lovely.

  4. Oooooo - I love that clemantis! Such a pretty color. Of the 7 I planted several years ago, only three have survived. I have no idea what their names are, I just love them though.

Such pretty roses, Ginni. I can't wait to see them all!

  5. Hey Gin. Check out Clematis on the Web

I think what you have there is Hagley Hybrid, rather than Nelly Moser. Nelly has more pronounced bars and the wavy edges and pointed sepals look more like HH to me.
