I got a few pictures of my chicks the other day. I've been letting the littler ones run loose while the bigger gals are out in their runout pen. I sit out there and just enjoy the funny stuff they do and babysit...I don't want a hawk to cruise by and notice the chicken buffet line!
Here are some of my chickens...
Betty AKA Thelma...she has a very sweet disposition.

Jacqueline...this one is really attached to me. I just love her, she's so sweet! She still has a lot of her baby down. But she's starting to get her beautiful blue-black feathers. She will be like a raven when she's full grown. She looks a little grossed out at what she's standing in!

Louise...she's going to be a beautiful hen...she will lay green or blue eggs!

Louise caught in a drunken stupor...The Coke did it! Actually that was Andy's Coke can, it had just blown down from the ledge. And Louise was just trying to find some dust to take a dust bath in and they sort of spazz out when they do that...her feathers on her head crack me up in this pic. She didn't have any luck, all we have around here is mud!

We had one other but we re-homed him. HIM...ACK!!...can't have any crowing roosters! It was sad too because he was going to be a beautiful chicken too. I love the blue-colored ones!
Now if I can just get them together with the bigger girls without WW3 starting, I'll be a happy chicken farmer!
Home At Last!!
Tuesday was my last day of work for the school year! YIPPPEEEEE Now to get to all those books and movies I have on my list! I am taking a few days to just veg.
Yesterday was my first full day off and Andy and I went to see the new Indiana Jones movie. I don't care what the reviews said, I loved it! Harrison Ford and Karen Allen looked a bit old, but they did a great job! It was a predictable story line, I won't mention any and give them away...no spoilers here. But I did love seeing it on the big screen. We also found out that we can get our tickets as "seniors"!! That made it a pretty cheap date!! We'll be seeing more movies at the theater, we decided.
Baking
I made my son a rhubarb custard pie Tuesday evening and took it to him on the way to the theater yesterday... and he said it was great. I also took one to my brother-in-law. He has never tried rhubarb. I'm anxious to find out if he liked it! The pies were a total experiment. I used my old recipe for custard pie and just threw some cut up rhubarb into the crust before I poured the custard mixture over it. I didn't make enough to taste it myself and was sort of worried that it wouldn't turn out. My son assured me it was "awesome pie"! And that's good enough for me. I didn't get any photos of it, but I will next time, and I'll let you in on the recipe too.
Yeah for summer vacation. Can I say, you're so lucky! Enjoy it!

The pie sounds very tasty - I'll have to find a custard recipe for Jay - he's the baker in the family.
ReplyDeleteCongats on your summer off-time. Give Rosie a rub for me.
