Busy day ...late post

We spent 8 hours in the yard/gardens working on weeding, moving dirt, preparing veggie beds, watching chicks in their tractor, watching Rosie enjoy the yard, cutting seed potatoes, preparing the potato barrel. It used to be a horse tank that we used as a downspout-rain-catcher until it popped a leak... we're going to try planting potatoes in it. This is apparently very popular and a space-saving way to plant a potato crop. The potatoes seed has to dry for 24 hours before you plant it. We'll plant them tomorrow, that is IF either of us can move!

I kept sneaking away from my work of hoeing and Preening the rose beds to sniff the amazing fragrance of our crab apple tree. Nothing smells like it, it's just wonderful.

Andy loaded 6 garden tractor sized trailer-loads of dirt from the site he is putting in the new patio. I helped him unload it into the new raised veggie beds. It worked out great...we shouldn't have to buy any dirt now. That brings the price of our veggies down quite a little bit. Well top it off with the compost in our old compost bin and that should be enough dirt to fill both frames.

The older chicks loved being outdoors in their tractor all day. They had fun scratching in the dirt, eating grass I picked for them, tearing apart dandelions...roots, stems, dirtball, worms and all.

We ate supper (carry-out) then I spent an hour in a hot bath and now Andy is in there showering.

We had a great day...busy, productive, exhausting. I'm going to go tend to my sunburn now.

  1. Your chicks have gotten so much bigger! Amazing.

I'm having a hard time moving around today after all the yard work. I forget how sore I am until I get up from the couch, then I laugh at myself. I'm going to try not to do too much today.

    Pictures of your work?
