I like days when I just do stuff on the blog. It's sort of like talking to you.
Confessions of an eBay addict!
Okay, I have been having too much fun buying mineral makeup on eBay! I only buy what I want if I can get it really cheap. It's become a game and it's fun trying to sneak a bid in at the last minute and snagging something you really wanted, really cheap. I used to do it with vintage French pottery and have won some things really cheaply that I had appraised and they were worth WAY more than I paid. For instance, I bought a vase for $56. The Butterfield's appraiser said it was worth at least $650! Then I won a little set of 6 pieces that I paid $49 for and they ended up being worth about $150 each. They had a significant signature on them that pinpointed almost exactly when they were made and for what purpose. The seller didn't know that, I did! It pays to get familiar with anything you're buying on eBay!! What's all this Caveat Emptor bull?? I say LET THE SELLER BEWARE!
Regarding this mineral makeup...I opt only for the best (Bare Escentuals) and I do a zillion bids on stuff I lose for every one item I end up buying. If nothing else, I'm helping the sellers get better prices for their goods by bumping up the sale price! I've gotten a whole set of this expensive makeup, a whole BRAND NEW set of this expensive makeup, for a tiny fraction of what it would have cost from a dealer or from QVC. I don't want to knock QVC, they have a good service, but if I can get it 10X's cheaper...I'm going to do it!!
Speaking of QVC, are you a sucker for television infomercials? I am. I very rarely buy something from an infomercial, but they can sure sell it!! I may see something I want and if I do, I generally seek it out from another source, like eBay, Amazon dot Com or SmartBargains. I always try to find a bargain! As I said up there ^ somewhere, it's like a game!
I love having a remote start on my car! I can stay in the cozy warmth of my house and start it. It will be mostly thawed out and warmed up when I get in it. I don't even want to know how much extra gas I use doing this, but it works for me. I just have to remember to turn my defrost blower on high when I get out of the car the night before or it sort of defeats the purpose!
We have a new Walmart opening just down the road from us today. I have mixed feelings about Walmart. It's a mega-biz that's kicking ass in the cheap goods dept. but it's also hurting mom and pop businesses. Well, it's hurting them if they haven't been pretty well-established before Wallyworld came into the world. I know a few that are still going strong. Remember to use those mom and pop stores in your neighborhood, at least once in a while. It would be a freakin' shame if the only place we had to shop in the future was Walmart!
I'm off to work. It's 23° here right now. When is spring going to be here? Not just on the calendar, but really be here?
For a good friend....She just had major back surgery this morning and the surgery went very well. I got a call from her hubby on my machine when I got home from work. The recovery is going to be a long haul (up to a year and a half) and I would love it if everyone who reads this will send up prayers and good wishes for Rosemary. Get well soon sweetheart!
That remote start sounds like something I want!
ReplyDeleteI'm becoming such a weenie about cold weather, as I get older...
XOXO
I used to have the eBay bug, too, Ginni. But I wasn't nearly as knowledgeable. I just wanted some teacup and saucers. Can't remember any of the styles or names anymore and have started giving sets away as gifts. I guess I'm not a collector :-)
ReplyDeleteI can see why the infomercials do so well. The stuff they sell seems so believable. I was addicted to Starbucks ornaments a few years ago and bought them on eBay. That's about it for me. I'm just not much of a shopper. When I do want something, I research it to death!
ReplyDeleteI like blogs about stuff.
Hi Ginni,
ReplyDeleteI also went through an Ebay phase, both buying and selling. Haven't done much in the past two years--too busy blogging!
My sis is a QVC fan and buys a lot, only to return it. I just don't get it.
I like your "Stuff" post--occasionally I feel like doing one, but then I just stick with my garden stuff.

Speaking of infomercials, have you seen the one of the magic glue that can stick anything to anything? It looks like bubble gum but I'm dying to find out if it works. But not dying enough to spend $20 + s/h on it.
