The cat in the hat

I always thought time was a precious commodity ......but I'm finding out that energy is too! And they go together. If you have the time but no energy, you're screwed. Same thing in reverse...no time, just energy, blah! Lately I'm not finding much of either. But sometimes you can bust thru the no-energy scenario. Just forge ahead, find the energy, bully pip pip and all that rot.

And when you're busy finding the energy to do someone else's stuff, it's hard to find the energy to do your own stuff.

Wow, I'm a whiny-butt tonight! It's probably due to the fact that it's 12:30am and I just got done doing the dishes from today and yesterday. Geez, how did they get away from me?? Could it be that Jon had 3 doc appointments yesterday, his first chemo treatment today and a whole lot of his stuff that needed done...like RIGHT NOW! The IRS waits for NO man...even one who's going thru all this "monkey crap". And when a guy needs new underwear that doesn't fall off his skinny butt, he needs it now!

I love the term "monkey crap". That's Jon's oncologist's favorite term for malignant cells, chemo drugs, anything that delays a persons forward progress, alternative medical treatments, herbal remedies...in fact, anything and everything is likely to be called monkey crap by this talented man. He swears like a sailor, talks fast and talks funny. To me, he has a great bedside manner and is funny as hell, but to others (mostly old ladies, to be specific) he's got a baaaaad bedside manner or so I've heard from a few others who have dealt with him. He told us his wife gets upset with the way he talks to his patients, gee go figure...she's probably an old lady. Jon can relate to him and that's all I care about...altho they almost came to blows at Jon's first visit because he called alternative medicine monkey crap and voodoo. Jon bristled at that, and in Jon's less-than-shy approach to life, blasted the guy for his attitude about what Jon thinks is the way to go. (Acupuncture, chiropractic, herbal medicine, etc)

Anyway, Jon had his first chemo thing today. It took about 4 hours...that was 2 hours less than they told us. Jon wore his funky chili pepper lounge pants, a red t-shirt and his horrible old nasty hat. I wish he would leave the hat at home, but it's like part of him, these days. Oh well, whatever keeps ya going! Here's a picture of the hat...he wears it to do everything. Everything from going to the hospital for chemo treatments to going fishing with his son. Oh and by the way...This is my grandson's first fish...a 3 lb. bass! Not too shabby for a kid!!

Jon is doing okay so far, but I have a feeling this chemo has a cumulative effect on the body. We have to just watch him for bad juju and keep the doc posted. He did eat something today and kept it down, even! Mashed potatoes and gravy...he eats that almost everyday. It's always been my comfort food and I think it must be his too...either that or it's the salt he's craving. He eats a lot of Campbell's Vegetable Beef soup, pretzels and dill pickles too. Funny thing is, I ate those when I was pregnant with him when I had morning sickness. Gotta be the salt!

I made Andy call about Rosie's vet appointment today...at least she has an appointment now! Andy will take her if I can't do it. He's a good doggie dad!

I can't believe June is almost over already! Summer days go so much faster than school days. I think it's a law of nature or something. It's the same law that says vacation days go much faster than work days. I think the summer thing is a sub-clause to the regular work-day law.

I'll find the time and the energy and my smile again. I'm just pissy today for some reason...could be cyclical? Or whatever.

Thought for the day:

We looked! Then we saw him
Step in on the mat!
We looked! And we saw him!
The Cat in the Hat!

  1. Blow off some steam, ignore the dishes, and go sniff some roses, Ginni! Taking care of yourself so you can take care of Jon is the best bet right now.

    Praying for you all,
    xoxo

  2. Ginni dear, I'm so sorry to hear that Jon is sick. I'll keep you all in my thoughts and prayers.
I think his hat is hilarious, and it's probably a sort of comfort blanket for him right now. I understand that - everyone has a favorite outfit or article of clothing that just makes them feel better.

If you're feeling cranky, it's probably because of all the pressure you're under. Be kind to you, and give yourself permission to be cranky if you want to for awhile.

    Sending you big-bug-hugs!
