What is the song line that comes to mind when you see this photo of the steaming Rock River at sunrise?? (Marsha, don't give it away!!)

I took that photo yesterday morning on my bus route. Here are a few more I took yesterday and today. We've been going the scenic route lately just to break up the monotony!
Another one of the Rock River. In the foreground is the old Friendship Farm, horse farm that used to belong to Tish Hewitt. She was John Deere's great-great-granddaughter. I remember seeing her at horse shows dragging her mink coat thru the horse poop! She was a hoot. Sadly, they are tearing down the old barns. I have fond memories of my horse days and going there for seminars and workshops put on by her veterinarian. He was my vet for a while too. You can just see the entrance of the farm in the middle of the photo.

Here's the sun coming up over TPC at Deere Run (the pro golf course I drive by) They hold the John Deere Classic golf tourney there every year, in July. That used to be part of Friendship Farms too.

This is a deer that was munching on twigs. She wasn't the least bit afraid of the school bus, you can tell because her tail is down. She wasn't afraid, but was very interested. You can't see them, but there were 20 of her buddy's all around her. The kids were so excited.

Soup
We had a wonderful supper last night of pot roast, carrots, onions and potatoes. We had a nice batch of leftovers that I saved to make soup. When I got home from my first shift this morning, I sat down with a knife and cutting board and cut up all the leftovers and put them in a pan with the broth that was leftover, some frozen peas, corn and lima beans. I added a bit more beef broth and half a small can of V-8 juice and cooked it up.

I had a nice steaming bowl of soup for breakfast.

It was the first time I'd been warm all day! It's not that cold here but it felt damp out there this morning and that just chills me to the bone. That soup just warmed me all up and I felt good after eating it. Soup does that.
All I can come up with is: "Old black water, keep on rollin' Mississippi moon won't you keep on shinin' on me" But that can't be right...
ReplyDeleteThanks, Brad, now I can't get that *&^% song out of my head!

ReplyDeleteCool photos kid. I can't think of *any* song at 4:30 a.m. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteOkay, I guess I have to tell you. The song I thought of when I saw that scene was "Smoke on the water...a fire in the sky..." It's an old rock song by Deep Purple.
ReplyDeleteThat soup looks so yummy! It's cold and gray here today. Perfect weather for soup.
