'Twas the day after Christmas©
By Ginni D
It’s the day after Christmas and all thru the place
So much paper and wrappings, the house: a disgrace.
Santa has been there and left all his bootie
The presents are awesome; he’s done well his duty.
The cider is gone and the cocoa is too
The fruitcake is untouched, but what can you do?
One small candy cane still hangs up in the tree
It’s one that I’m sure that the kids didn’t see.
Most of the toys have two pieces missing
The mistletoe's worn out, from all of the kissing.
The Christmas tree lights are burnt out on one side
And the musical Santa’s high notes are all fried.
The little Christmas train that runs under the tree
Has a red caboose where the engine should be
And the wreath on the door has blown down in the wind
And the ribbons around it have all come unpinned
The batteries are worn out and some stuff is broken
The dolly that talked… now her words are unspoken.
The fudge is all gone and the brittle is too
But that’s just as well ‘cause I know what I’d do!
It’s been a great season, with love and good will
Getting family together is the main bill to fill
The love and the joy that we have at this time
Is the reason for the season, the Reason sublime.
So broken stuff, messes and fruitcake don’t matter
Getting families together for good will and some chatter
Is all that’s important and should mean the most
Whether you are the cook, guest or host.
So now that the holiday season has past
I must think of New Year’s resolutions and think them up fast
So with cookie crumbs crumbled all over my chin
I shout out to all “Let the diet begin!”
That was fabulous!! Such a talent you are...
ReplyDeleteI'll just say "let the diets be damned"........lol....
Hope it was great Ginni!

XOXO
Ain't that the truth!
ReplyDeleteWonderful, Ginni. You're so gifted at doing these fun poems.
ReplyDeleteGinni, you're a genius :-)
ReplyDeleteHi Ginn! You are SO poetic!
ReplyDeleteThanks for your kind comments about the kids and fur-kids! I'd love to see photos of your horses! Isn't it funny how technology has changed us? It's just not good enough for us to have photographs! Photos seem to be going the way of records.
Our daughter has been riding since she was 8 competing in hunter/ jumper. She rode on the national circuit in college and actually placed. She has two degrees -- neither having to do with horses, but they are truly the love of her life (as are Zoe and Leon (backwards spells Noel!!)) I'll try to post more photos of the barn (we should all live this well) at the school where she teaches and of the horses at our sons.
You are a real Renaissance woman, aren't you? You've done so very much!
Should be 'son's'. I taught English for heaven's sake!
ReplyDeleteWell done Ginni! And boy am I ready for the diet to begin. Tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteThat was great Ginni! You're a poet too!
