AUSTRALIA, the movie.
We saw the movie Australia yesterday. It was set just before the start of WWII in Darwin, Australia. It's about cattle barons, Aborigines, a love story, and it was very good. But then again, anything with Hugh Jackman is good, just for the visual enjoyment. He did a great acting job too. Nichole Kidman was pretty good in her part. I thought it was extremely well cast. The little "Creamy" Aboriginal boy "Nullah" was played by an amazing little boy. Not only did he steal your heart, just looking at him, but he was a good actor. The scenery was awesome but I'm never sure anymore if it's true scenery or computer-enhanced stuff. It was good, whatever it was tho!
One subject of the movie was the "Stolen Generation" of Aboriginal children who were part white. They were taken from their mothers and put in missions. This practice was done to "protect" the kids but in reality it was a cruel way (to their families) to prevent miscegenation and control the mixing of the races so the Aboriginal race wouldn't die out, but it was also a way to keep the white race "pure". It was very sad stuff!! The Australian government, just this year, apologized to the Aboriginal race for what it did. John Howard, Australia's past prime minister refused to apologize, the present time PM Kevin Rudd did it.
I don't mean to get political here but see the movie! It's worth spending 2 hours and 45 minutes in the theater and it keeps your interest all the time. I never felt bored or like I wished it was over.
SNOW, oh no!
Snow on the ground today. More of it than I expected. And so it begins! UGH!
ACHOO, blaaaaa.
I stayed home from work today. I sneezed half the night away and since no one I was with had a cold, I figured I picked one up at the theater. I feel better in the light of day, but I'm home and we'll finish decorating for Christmas, I suppose.
MICROFIBER, amazing!
I got my order from eBay of microfiber dust cloths. Well, they aren't just dust cloths, you can use them for cleaning windows or anything. They do such a good job of picking up dust debris and dregs, they claim to do a 98% effective job of disinfecting whichever surface they are used on. One of my good buds told me about them and I just had to try them. I need something around the house to get the dust and I hate using chemicals to dust with, so since these work without any sprays or goop, they fill the bill nicely. I also need something to clean the inside of the windsheild of my bus. It's difficult to reach all the way down to the bottom of the glass and if I spray a window cleaner on a rag, it just drips down and it's impossible to reach to clean it all up. So a dry rag that actually cleans well is perfect for that job. I'll take one or two of these new cloths to use on the bus. I'll just bring them home to wash them when they get dirty!
Well, I think I'm going to clean something. I want to finish putting up my Christmas decorations today and I'll dust really good before I put the stuff out.
Ginn, You've been a busy little blogger! You're the second person in a day who has recommended AUSTRALIA. I can't remember the last time I went to the movies -- yes it can, we took our kids to the HOW THE GRINCH STOLE CHRISTMAS.... I usually don't like to go because people talk through the film and the teacher in me wants to correct them, but I might have to make an exception. Feel better. Kathy
ReplyDeleteI've been hoping Australia would be good. Thanks for the reveiw. I've been thinking it was the kind of movie best seen in a theater and it sounds like it is.
ReplyDeleteWhat's the name of the dust rag - available in stores ?
A big hug and a kiss to you - 'just cuz'
Sick on the first day back to school? Ooh. I'm glad your got your decorating done. I got most everything done, with the exception of the tree. I don't like that job. At all.
ReplyDeleteCleaning windshields with microfiber cloth? I like that. I have some and I'm going to give it a try. My windshield is embarrassing. I don't think it's ever been so dirty. My bad.
Feel better!
Gin, I just got back from seeing Australia...it was marvelous. I loved the cast, the story and the music. The scenery was magnificant..a real epic of a movie. And I teared up a few times.
ReplyDeleteGlad you enjoyed it also.
xoxoxo
Sorry to read that you have a cold. Take care of yourself.
