Veteran's Day

Another Day Off!

I love my job, but I do love having days off! Especially when a few days off just happen to string together. One of the school districts I take kids to has a fall break. I couldn't figure that one out...I mean after all, the kids just came back to school the end of August and by the end of October, they need a break already?? Then it dawned on me...it's a break for the teachers, NOT the kids! Now the main district I work for has managed to have a couple of teacher's conference days worked in with Veteran's day and a weekend, giving us a 5 day weekend.

Thank A Veteran

Today is Veteran's Day. It's a day when we would all do well to say thank-you to any veteran's we know or see. Andy was in the US Navy for 22 years and he made it to the rank of Chief. He wears a baseball cap that has a patch on it that says US Navy CPO Retired on it. You wouldn't believe the number of people who stop and talk to Andy because of that hat. Many thank him, many stop and talk about their Naval service and some just say, "Hi, Chief!". If I didn't know Andy any better than I do, I'd swear he wears it to get attention. But he's not that type. I know he's very proud of his service to our country but he's a more the type to not want any extra attention. But it always makes me proud to be with him when someone singles him out when they see him wearing his hat!

Anyway, I'm going to go thank my veteran and make his favorite French toast breakfast.

  1. Ginni, Ginni, Ginni....don't you know that days off are ALWAYS for the teachers!!! I used to get so excited on snow days, that once I heard the announcements I could never go back to sleep!
My husband is ex-Navy, too, but he was just a peon. Tell Andy thanks for his service to our country.

  3. (Well - here I am, catching up on my reading, as usual...)

Happy Veterans Day to you, Andy, and to all our service people. My BFF's husband is Army Reserve, her son is Air Force (just returned from Iraq) and her SIL is Marines. My brother was a CPO in the Navy as well. I am constantly in awe of all the people who serve or have served their country. We wouldn't be here without them. THANK YOU!
