I'm having the same trouble so many other of my blogger friends are having. It's hard to be fresh and have something good to write about every day. We're on the fast downhill track of 2008 and since I committed to doing Blog365 and writing every day for the entire year, I'm trying to post something, anything, everyday! I'm sorry if it's a waste of your time to come here only to find a post like yesterdays, but I hope you'll understand! It's just that I'm getting sort of burned out on posting everyday. But I'm going to try to do it. I've made it this far!
Swimming
I swam yesterday...I did 1/4 of a mile in about half an hour. Not too fast, but I worked at it steadily. My sister ...AKA Flash ...did 1/2 mile in the same time. We figured that she swam the equivalent to swimming across our bay at the cabin and I made it half way!
Here's a picture of our bay. It's about 1/2 mile across, at best guess. That's going by the mileage of the highway that's just north of us and that runs perpendicular to the lake.

I need to get a pair of goggles so I can do the Australian crawl ***when I swim. If I try to do it without them, I go off crooked and take the chance of crashing into other swimmers in the lane and that would be a bit embarrassing. And there's no way I can open my eyes underwater, not in that chlorine water! I do it in the lake all the time, but not in a pool!!
Trimming
Andy mowed up the rest of the leaves in our yard yesterday. Well, the leaves from our tree, anyway. The wind got to blowing pretty good last night and I'm sure there will be more leaves blowing around, but that's okay...most of our are gone now and that's good! It helps to mow and trim the grass down very low so leaves will blow off our lawn without getting caught in the grass. It also looks nicer when it snows, to have all the leaves gone and the grass trimmed off short. Did I just say the "S" word????
Skimming
The chickens are doing okay. They have slowed down production a bit again, laying only about 7 or 8 eggs a day. They have off and on days. Once in a while we still get 11 eggs in one day...that means they all laid an egg that day. We have some heaters we will get set up this weekend for their waterers. So far their water hasn't frozen, but that time is coming soon! One of the chickens laid an egg this morning that got broken. That's a bad thing because they'll eat the egg and figure out that eating eggs is yummy and they'll ruin all the eggs laid in their coop. I hope they didn't get any ideas!!!
Brimming
We sure are enjoying our newly re-decorated basement. If we get a carry-out salad or sandwich for supper, we eat downstairs and watch TV from our new recliners. I'm going to try to get some photos of the basement this weekend. I need to get some photos of the chickens too! And Rosie. BTW, she loves the new space we have to live in. In fact a couple times she's come up missing and we've found her down there all by herself! I'm sure proud of Andy for all his good work down there...I think Rosie is too!
Dimming
I'm not into doing ANYTHING Christmas too early, but I have gotten a little shopping done already. I found a new hat for Andy ...one of those US Navy CPO Retired hats, like in the photo in my post on Veteran's day. He has asked his daughter (who lives at the Great Lakes Naval Base) to get him a new one for over a year and she hasn't gotten it yet, so I found one on eBay and got it for him. It's going to be a surprise. Our new recliners are our Christmas gifts to one another too ...and we're enjoying them so much, even tho it's this early!! I'll find a few more things for Andy and I'm sure he'll get me a couple other things.
I also already have Dad's gift ...I got him a turntable stereo so he can listen to LP records. I had to get him some new records. I've talked to all my sisters and no one has his old one's so I found his old faves on eBay and got them very cheaply! I hope he likes the player and the records. I hope he can operate the player. I think he'll love dimming down the lights and listening to his memories on LP's!
I bought some Christmas decorations and re-painted them. They were cheapos from Walmart...little buildings for a little mini snow village. The were only $1 a piece, they are hand-painted porcelain pieces, but the painting on them was terrible! I touched them up with lots of white paint to look like snow and now they are adorable! I'm tempted to go get another set or two and fix them up and give them as gifts. I want to get some before and after pics of the pieces, but didn't think of it until after the fact.
Okay, so maybe I AM into Christmas a bit early this year...but I do refuse to start baking for Christmas yet!! I have to save something to do in December!
***Sometimes called the front crawl or forward crawl. My mom was a Red Cross swim instuctor and lifeguard and she always called it the Australian Crawl. Now there's a singing group with that name and that's about all you can find if you Google it!
I love this kind of post. I know, I always say that. Let's see...find goggles with foam around the eyes. They're the most comfortable to me. I can't swim without goggles! And what do you think about when you swim? Lately I've been counting. Like on my second lap I count by 2's, etc...I count in groups of 5 laps, so I start over on lap 6. A quarter mile is great! I'll have to google 'Austrailian crawl'.
ReplyDeleteI'll always think of the frigid winter for those chickens in the book. Does it get that cold where you live? Do you have a light for them so they don't freeze?
Christmas. I already feel like I'm behind.
Happy Friday!
Don't apologize; you do a great job of giving us all a sweet taste of your life. (I'm still laughing about the raccoon in the outhouse!). Get the goggles and don't forget to wet your hair BEFORE you get into the water. That way it won't absorb the chlorine. A lot of our pools are now treated with salt to cut down on the amount of chlorine needed. When the salt treated pools are heated , they have great therapy effects. I love them because I'm more buoyant! :)
ReplyDeleteLOL. I did a little skimming myself and thought you were swimming across that bay in November. I had to go back and see what you really said. Glad you were just comparing distances!
ReplyDeleteGinni, I had trouble reading the rest of your post... that photo has me mesmerized. What wonderful colors you've captured in that beautiful view from the cabin!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, thanks for the advice on goggles. I'll remember that! And I think of all sorts of things when I swim. That's a good idea to count tho...it helps you remember where you are and how far you've gone.
ReplyDeleteWe will put a heat lamp in each coop this weekend. It will keep the little shed they're in pretty warm. I specifically chose chickens breeds that can take the winter weather. And we have water heaters to install this weekend too so their water stays nice and warm. They should be fine!
Kathy, thanks for your sweet words! I sure appreciate your advice about the water on my hair, I'll do that. We're supposed to shower before we get in the pool, and I do, but never thought of rinsing my hair. I wish we had salt-water pools! But I'm pretty buoyant on my own...LOL
Ruth, I love the lake but I'm NOT going in it in November...LMAO!!!
Anne, I love that view too...it's my favorite!
Hey ya sweets - while you have the cam out be sure to get some pics of the gussied up christmas ornaments to share!
ReplyDeleteWill do B!! They turned out really cute!
ReplyDeleteI wanna see 'em too!
ReplyDeleteGinni - honestly - where do you find all your energy? Sheesh! You wear me out just reading about everything you do!
XOXOXO
