Are you ready?

Turkey Day?

Thanksgiving is just about upon us and I'm ready! I still have to do the work, but I have all the groceries for all my donations to our family meal and it's just a matter of getting it all put together. Tonight I'll make my cranberry relish or cranberry salad or whatever it's called. Then tomorrow I'll make the pie and the jello salad. The sweet potatoes will be baked Thursday just before we go to our dinner.

Werk

I'm really ready to have a few days off work. But about the time I get them, I'll miss work and wish I was there! Part of my love of work is the times with my co-workers where we are sitting at our table, in the lounge area, getting psyched up to go on our routes. We have some little mini-spats going on at work that the people involved in think are serious, but they really aren't. They're pretty much just junior high crap, but they don't upset the whole place and that's good. For the most part we all get along great.

Elvis trees?

One of my co-workers told me about an exhibit at the West Branch, Iowa Herbert Hoover Library of Christmas trees decorated to commemorate Elvis Presley's life and times. It sounds like a good day trip for my trippin' sister and me. We love to go on trips just for the joy of going someplace different and since gasoline is down in price ($1.87 per gallon, last time I looked) it's a good time to go trippin'. Now why the heck the HH Library is all about Elvis is a mystery, but I guess they have to have something to exhibit. To help get me in the mood, I just ordered Elvis's complete gospel CD set.

Christmas a little early

Andy and I will be doing a little trippin' of our own on Saturday. His sister is having their family Christmas gathering in Wapello, Iowa. We'll take food down and have a great visit. I love his sister and her husband, they are such sweet people. He's a retired trucker and she's a home health care worker with a heart as big as all outdoors. We don't exchange gifts, but we sure enjoy the time with them.

I'm sort of glad they're having this event before Christmas this year. They usually have it in January and it's hard to get in the holiday mood again after it's mostly over. At least this way we'll be just starting to feel festive!

Sis and Bro, as Andy calls them, used to live in little Oakville Iowa...it was so badly damaged in the floods of the past spring that the town was almost totally devastated. They have been debating whether or not they should re-build the town, but it lies so deep in the flood plain that there is a huge chance if they did re-build, it would just get flooded and washed out again and again. It's sad...Bro was born and raised in that town and has lived there all his life. They lost almost everything in the flood.

Wow - another reminder of the "500 Year Flood". I'm so sorry to hear that your brother-in-law and sis lost so much. I just hope and pray next spring will NOT be a repeat!

My brother Butch (an avid Elvis fan) once said that listening to Elvis sing gospel brought tears to his eyes.

  5. I went out shopping today. Tomorrow I make my "healthy" carrot cake. That's all I have to do this year.

Then I think I get to take the rest of the weekend off. It depends on how much writing I get done tomorrow.

  6. I need your e-mail addy too so I can send you the recipe. Can you send it to me? I might have it, but don't know where.

Sounds like you're all geared up. I can't wait till tomorrow is over so the holiday can begin.
