I'm so glad the weekend is here and it's a long weekend. We have Columbus Day off Monday! Wooo hooo.
YMCA
I've made a decision to join the YMCA in town. I didn't like the idea of having to drive the 8 miles one way to go work out but then I decided I could go right after my morning bus shift, when I'm halfway there already, do my workout and be home by 10:30 or 11am every day. I'd go every weekday except Wed. and that's because one of the schools I drive a kid to has an early-out every Wed. and I have much less free time between jobs on those days. If I go Mon, Tues, Thurs and Fri, that should give me a good workout for the week and I'll walk on my treadmill every day that I don't go to the "Y".
Each day I'm there I will be making a round on the Cybex machines since I've been wanting to get into weight workouts again. I'll probably do one of the cardio machines like an elliptical or treadmill and then I'll swim. I'm looking forward to the swimming so much. In fact, that's why I decided to do this entire thing in the first place. But of course then there are also the wet and dry saunas, the hot tub and all that jazz! I can shower and wash my hair there and save on my water bill at home. It will save me time in the morning too because I can shower after the "Y" workout instead of getting up so early and doing it when I first get up in the morning. I just think this will be the thing to do!
Of course, the bottom line is I'll be getting some good exercise. I still walk on my treadmill every day at home, but that's getting pretty boring after doing it every day since July 1st. Well, I've walked every day but not necessarily always on my treadmill. The past few days we've been having some shopping to do at the big stores (like Walmart) so I get in a good walk there and don't have to get on my treadmill. I time myself when I'm in the big stores and do some walking before I shop so I'm not stopping all the time.
The best part about the "Y" is that my sister already belongs and she and I will go together. She's retired for the most part (altho her old place of employment is begging for her to come back) but I just hope she holds off long enough to get me going and then I wouldn't mind going alone, once I'm familiar with the routine and figure out where everything is. I used to belong to this YMCA but it's been 8 years ago and they've changed it all around.
I'm excited about it! Andy is fine with it and that helps a lot too. I will miss my time with him in the morning but it will only be a couple of hours and we can spend time together between the "Y" and my second shift of bus driving. And of course my work shifts are only 2 hours so it's not really a big problem anyway.
Basement Project
We've been working on our basement and have the ceiling done, the walls done and half the floor painted. Andy did that while I was at work yesterday. I went down this morning and helped him move everything over so he can do the rest of the floor. He's loving having a project to work on. He gets kind of bored not working, but it's all good.
Eggs
Egg production has slowed down a little bit. We have lights on our chickens for about 15 hours a day so it's not the waning light but I think it's from the cooler weather. Once they get acclimated, they should start to lay a lot again. We went from 10-11 eggs a day down to about 7-8 eggs. That's okay and I understand, but I have such a high demand for our eggs. The girls can only do what they can do, so it's okay. But I have people at work (and everywhere I go) clamoring for eggs!! I give them to my family and we use what we need first, of course. I've been able to sell about 3 or 4 dozen a week since they all started to lay. I only get $2 a doz, but that's enough to pay for their feed.
Nintendo DS
I got a new game for my DS, it's called "My Spanish Coach". I'm trying to learn Spanish a little better. I know a little but not nearly as much as I could use. I have one student on my bus who's mom speaks very little English and altho she's learning and has gotten better, I would love to talk to her more. She grows the most amazing roses and I'd love to talk to her about them!! I don't know if this game will make me fluent enough to converse with someone, but it would be nice!
I'm glad your sister is at the Y too. That will help keep you motivated to go. (I'm just responding from my own self-knowledge that I would never consistently go someplace to work out.)
ReplyDeleteYou sure you don't want to become a full-time chicken farmer to fund your retirement? It sounds like a more stable gig than Wall Street!
That will be fun - to work out with your sister. Good motivation.
ReplyDeleteThe girls would like to request nest warmers please. ;)
Wow, Ginni, lots going on with you. I hope you do get to talk with the Spanish-speaking rose mom. How wonderful it would be to have a local rose buddy.
