Kitties

I keep seeing photos of people's kitties and hearing about their kitties...being old cats or new kittens. I miss having a cat. I used to be more of a cat person, than a dog person...you know how you seem to have an affinity for one or the other? The funny thing is, I've had allergies to cats since I was about 12 and started to develop hayfever. I could live with it for the most part and always seemed to get de-sensitized to whichever cat I had at the time.

The last cat I had was about 8 years ago. But I started having something happen that was way worse than allergies. I started to wheeze and could barely breathe around a cat. I went to an allergy/asthma doctor and found out I had asthma. He told me to get rid of my cat and I had to start on allergy shots. Now eight years later, I no longer have allergies as bad and only have an occasional asthma attack...but I really miss having a cat in my life.

Since taking the allergy shots for a few years, I don't seem to react as badly when I'm around other people's cats, as I used to, but I'm afraid to get a cat, get attached to it, only to have to give it up because it doesn't work out.

So I guess I'll just admire other peoples lovely kitties thru their photos and stories.

Maybe I'll get another Chihuahua instead?

  1. Ditto on the allergies/asthma thing. It totally sucks! I had the shots from age 5 till I married at 19. No cats still...but I wish I could too. Had an outside cat once...but he left us :(....I'm thinking it's one of those things where I want something I can't have. Don't know.
We have 2 chi-chi's.....got the second when we thought the first one may be lonely....wrong!! Pebbles has been mad at us ever since Panda came along..seriously.

  3. You could get a hairless one! Unfortunately, they're kind of ugly...

  4. I miss my cats too. At one time we had four, but they all died from old age over the years and we never replaced them. We *did* have one cat when we got Dusty. CC HATED that dog, so she took off for greener pastures. I really think Dusty would kill a cat if he could. (There must be some terrier in him.) So I've given up my cats - for now. :(

  5. Cats seems to be an allergy people rarely get over. Stick with the kitty photos. It's safer.

  6. Interestingly, I used to be reeeeeeally allergic to cats. One passing cat within 10ft and I start to sneeze. Miraculously (and I don't say that lightly), I got over it and am no longer allergic - at all :-) What I do miss, is the sweetness and cuddliness of my dear Nikki. These two new kitties are just NOT AFFECTIONATE... yet.

  7. I feel your pain. I'm only allergic to SOME cats, but when it hits it is bad. Others don't bother me. I miss having a kitty too...

  8. My alergies have always been strange. What I might react to one day/month/year can give me no trouble later on. Would you try a loaner kitty for a few weeks? I'll pack up Miss Lilly and send her on her way. (she's an ace mouser btw)

I can't help but think Rosie would put the kibosh on any new puppy siblings.
