Two hundred fifty seven

257

This is my two hundred fifty seventh blog entry for this year. I've been doing Blog365 and it's a chore to try to remember to blog everyday, not to mention trying to come up with a subject. I haven't missed a day yet, but some days I just hit it with a sentence or two. They say if you do something 45 times, it becomes a habit. I'm not so sure about that...but I know it becomes a chore on days when I'm really busy and really tired.

It's the same with my exercise routine. Today will make seventy five days I've walked in a row, without fail. After my busy day yesterday, I was about ready to give up on the idea of walking, I was so tired. I mean eyes-drooping-can't-drag-my-ass-off-the-couch-feel-it-in-your-bones tired. But I did it anyway. Not because of some fortitude on my part, but just out of habit. And also out of a fear that if I didn't do it then, I'd never do it again!! Maybe that's what a habit is. Good bad or otherwise!

I only bring all this up because of the fact that all I wanted to do was go to bed last night, super early but I still had to blog and I still had to walk. So I begrudgingly did both because the habit of doing them has been burned into my brain. It did make me feel good to do both tho. And I'm really getting some good physical effects from the walking!

Go me!

Rain, rain go away!

Andy just came in and told me that we had 2/10ths of an inch of rain in the rain gauge last night and now there is 4.1 inches! There are at least two more inches coming today. I guess we're actually pretty lucky. I'm sure Galveston would rather have 4.1 inches of rain than what it's getting. I sure hope everyone got out of that town okay. I'm saying prayers for all my friends in Texas! Veronica, who's way down in the southern tip of the state, Melva and Diane who are around the Dallas area, Petra and Dawn who are both near San Antonio. Hope you guys are hanging in there. Ike looks pretty wicked! And of course, I'm always praying for my Louisiana friends Jamie, Betty and Sis. Seems like they get the brunt of any ol' hurricane that comes down the pike!

I guess whining about 4plus inches of peaceful, quiet, soft rain is pretty lame!

Eggs

We got 8 eggs yesterday. That means we have 9 hens laying now, out of 11. I'm tickled about the production level of some of these chickens. I will start selling eggs at work on Monday. We're sure getting more than we can use! People at work have been clamoring for eggs for a couple weeks now, well actually, since I told them I was getting chickens!

Speaking of chickens, I'm reading the neatest book. It's called Still Life With Chickens: Starting Over in a House by the Sea by Catherine Goldhammer. I love the way this woman writes sort of like she's sitting there having tea with you and telling you a story. It's a good story, too. I'm only about 1/3 of the way in, but I'm enjoying it. It's a small book, should just take a couple hours to read...now if I could only keep reading instead of falling asleep. The problem is that I only take time to read when I lie down at night to go to bed. I read to shut my mind down so I can sleep. Maybe I'll take advantage of this rain and spend some time reading this weekend.
