Well, I'm home and listening to an audio book! Since I've had an iPhone, I've learned so much about it...more every day. One day about a month ago, I decided I needed to get some new music from iTunes and in my perusal of the site, I ran across the audio book section. I was tickled and have since gotten a number of them. I'm truly enjoying listening to them in my free time.
Right now, I'm listening to Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen. I'm somewhere around 50 chapters in and am enjoying it. I've been listening to it while waiting for kids on my bus (I have a couple of 15 or 20 minute long lay-overs a day) My bus monitor says these books put her to sleep. (She says the same thing when I put a CD of opera music in the bus CD player!! Pavarotti isn't her bag...she doesn't complain when I put in an ACDC or Guns & Roses CD! haha) Oh well, I guess a soft British voice, reading anything Jane Austen could be considered dull and boring by the uninitiated. But I'm loving it! And it's fine if my monitor wants to nap while we wait! At least I'm not getting interrupted while I listen!
I've also purchased these other audio books to load on my phone: Favorite Dog Stories by James Harriot; Jane Boleyn by Julia Fox; Naughty Neighbor by Janet Evanovich; The Shack by Wm. P. Young; Wife For Hire by Janet Evanovich; A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens.
My goal is to "read" all of the books by Christmas time and then listen to Dickens around the holidays. I love that book and have read it myself quite a few times.
On CD I've bought: The Rocky Road to Romance, Love Overboard, Metro Girl and Motor Mouth all by Janet Evanovich. I love her writing, it's very fun and entertaining. I often laugh outloud while reading all her books! Ms. Evanovich is a very prolific writer too...I can barely keep up with her ambition! The CD's can also be loaded on my phone, thru my computer, and listened to or I can listen to them in the car.
I've had audio books before on tape when my car had a tape deck in it, but now I don't have one of those anymore so it has to be CD's. I love being able to listen to a book being read while we travel. The only thing is, if it's a trip that both of us are going, I have to find books both Andy and I like. Most of what we had on tape were Stephen King short stories. Perfect for a day trip.
Now I hope I can get Andy agreeable to listening to Ms. Evanovich's books! We can both laugh outloud!
You should get a horror story. THAT will keep your monitor awake. Maybe something Stephen King? I'm kidding! :D
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Jane Boleyn now, almost finished. I'd be intersted to hear your thoughts when you read it. I got Henry IV in the mail yesterday, he's next on deck.
ReplyDeleteHave a great weekend friend!
I'm never ever without an audio book in my car. I get them all from the library, and we can also download audio books for our mp3 players from the library. I love Stephanie Plum's narrator. She nails it!
