These are some from our Easter Eggers. I love the color, sort of a pale turquoise. And I think these are all three from the same hen. We've gotten one for the last 3 out of 4 days so I'm pretty sure they're all from the same one. And the fact that they are the same color sort of makes it a for sure thing.

I just love this kind of chicken. Some people erroneously call them Araucanas, or Ameraucanas, but they are actually Easter Eggers. They are sort of a mutt chicken but they all have blue, green or even sometimes pinkish eggs. Very lovely and my favorites! The eggs are exactly the same nutrition-wise and the only difference from them and my other eggs is the shell color. Unscrupulous sellers try to convince people they are worth more money because they have less cholesterol in them or more nutrients. Poppycock!
Oh and BTW, eggs don't cause your cholesterol to go up like they used to think. I read a couple articles on that since we have been eating more eggs lately. I don't remember all the details but the cholesterol in eggs doesn't metabolize as cholesterol in your body. Or something! I don't remember all the particulars and it was sort of technical. I can understand it but can't intelligently repeat what I read!
And speaking of eggs...check out this beauty that one of our hens laid...

You'd think we had ostriches in the coop!! I wonder what the hen thought that laid that egg? She was probably proud as a peacock! Well, peahen!
Your eggs are so pretty Ginni! And, are you sure that last egg came from a chicken?!? Looks like a goose egg! LOL
ReplyDeleteGirl, feel free to talk about eggs and chickens all you want. I am endlessly fascinated and jealous.
ReplyDeleteI love the blue ones, but look at the SIZE of that last one! I bet she thought "OUCH!"

Sigh. just beautiful, Ginni. Are your girls on a regular schedule of egg production yet?
ReplyDeleteLOL Sally, it does look like a goose egg, doesn't it!!
ReplyDeleteFiwa, having chickens is so fun. It's unbelievable how cool they are. Kinda dumb tho...LOL
Thank Rosemary, those are my favorites!! I'm the most attached to them, too. And I love the look of their eggs.
Petra, welcome to my blog, it's always fun to get new readers! Especially when they are all the way from overseas!! Those turquoise eggs are really different, aren't they!
Hi Anne, no, they are just starting to lay so it's sort of hit and miss at this point!

Fine looking eggs. That last one must be a three yolker at least. I love the double yollks we get. My fav for a nice simple fried egg with toast.
ReplyDeleteSis, I love that you want chickens and I know you'll have them some day!!
ReplyDeleteDawn, it's amazing alright! I go out there 4 or 5 times a day just to check! It's very eggsciting! haha
Brad, I will have the camera ready when we crack that biggie!
