Here ya go Brad and Fiwa! Another one of those easy breezy recipes, that's so simple it's hard to actually call it a recipe.
Fried Green Tomatoes (my way)
Wash, de-stem and dry firm green tomatoes
Slice the tomatoes into 1/2" slices
In a flat bowl mix flour, salt and pepper to taste
In another bowl crack a couple eggs and beat until well mixed
Heat some canola oil in a stick-proof frying pan
Dredge the tomato slices in the egg, then the flour mixture until well coated
Fry the tomato slices in hot oil until brown, flip and brown the other side.
Serve with sugar! YES SUGAR! I love the way sugar compliments the rather bitter taste of the green tomatoes. YUMMMMO!!
Sugar?! SUGAR?! Ginni, please tell me you are not one of those people who puts sugar on their grits?
ReplyDeleteThank you, Miz BugHugger, for that recipe. Hey, if ya don't know what you're doing (the way I don't) then it floats as a recipe. I tried to make some earlier this summer with panko bread crumbs... that did not work out AT ALL.
I don't know about that sugar though... ;)
Love you!

Haha...well you don't have to use sugar, but that's how I like 'em! I like sugar on my sliced fresh red tomatoes too. Actually these days I'm using Splenda instead of sugar more and more.
ReplyDeleteAnd JFTR, I don't put sugar on my grits...I put HONEY and butter on them!!! ;-)
I wonder what my tomatoes will look like when I get home. Actually, my ex volunteered to water all my plants while I'm away. Nice. I'll be trying your fried green tomatoes. With the sugar!
ReplyDeleteGinni, grits call for butter and salt, not sweet stuff! teehee...
ReplyDeleteOk, maybe, if I can find some green tomatoes, I might try one with sugar.
lovins!
fiwa
Thank for the recipe - now I just gotta get my grubby mitts on some green tomatoes!
