Wednesday is Favorite Artist Day...Degas

My favorite artist today is Edgar Degas! Another Impressionist...I just love the soft, muted colors of his ballerinas but I love how he put a splash of bright color in all his ballet paintings, usually one of the dancers sashes, bows or tights are bright red, orange, yellow or blue. His work was a favorite of an art professor of mine because she was into ballet. I never got into ballet, I'm more of the German Slap Dance type...but I really appreciate his work.

Degas' Self Portrait

He did a lot of horse paintings, I like that!

I got a print of this picture from a boyfriend of mine and it hung in my bathroom for a couple years. He worked at the Chicago Art Institute when there was a Degas exhibit there.

"La Coiffure"

I love this stark monochrome...the lines are wonderful.

  2. I see the same techniques regarding light and composition that I strive for in my photographs. These are beautiful, Ginni. Do you have prints of all of these? I love the monochrome as well as the ballet.

  3. Hi Ginni! I love Degas too, "La Coiffure" is one of my favorite paintings.

Yesterday's pictures cracked me up - Rosie with her head buried in your slippers. :)

And I wanted to say - I think the birdhouse surrounded by the crabapple blossoms would make a BEAUTIFUL watercolor. It's a lovely photo.

Give Mz. Rosalita a kiss on the nose for me.
    Lovins and bughugs!

  4. I love that horse racing picture. Reminds me of childhood trips to Newmarket races.

The old violin player is terrific.
