Lunar Eclipse..we had clear skies!

We went out about 8:30pm last night to view the total lunar eclipse. It was 3° but clear as a bell. That rarely happens when we have a sky event. It’s usually too cloudy to see anything. I took two cameras and tried to get a couple decent photos. It was tough to get good ones! But here are my best efforts, such as they are. I’ll learn to use that fancy camera one of these days!

These are weird images where my shutter was open for about 30 seconds. Even with a tripod, the wind was blowing and I was shivering. I got a ghost image (the blue line) showing the part of the moon that was still bright. But the ghost image was backward and upside-down. You can see just a little of the orangy color the moon was during the umbral stage of the eclipse.

Just before totality

  1. Very cool! Love the 3rd pic especially.

We were gonna watch it, but we totally forgot...dang it.

  2. I saw it too! But my camera (zoomless) didn't capture what you caught. Fabulous shots! It'll be nearly 3 years before we see another one.

  3. Nifty - it looks like it was on fire. I forgot to go out and look, but it was probably too cloudy here anyway. :(

  4. Nice shots.

I completely missed out - not because the sky wasn't clear, but simply because I didn't freakin' remember.

I got to see it now, though ;)
