Tired today...

...but Blog365 marches on!

So, I'm going to cop out and post some photos of my art work. I have been trying to learn watercolor. Trying is the key word here. I have taken many classes, private lessons (over the course of my life from childhood on up) and played around with watercolor a long long time. I majored in art in college and have always loved to draw and paint. Oils were my forte (if you can say I had a forte) in the past, long past, and I don't work with them much anymore because they take too long. I tend to sit down and do a painting from start to finish, not eating, sleeping or doing anything but dealing with the basest human needs until I'm happily done with a piece. I just don't have time for oils anymore. I am finally getting it, the watercolor thing that is. I'm learning that a light touch is the most important thing. But I still have along way to go. I thought I'd post a few and see what you think. I'm posting a few watercolor paintings and a couple sketches.

Go ahead, critique me...I can take it!

Watercolors

Sketches (pencil and color pencil)

As you can tell, I use my garden as a source of inspiration. My muse lives out there!

  1. Ginni, they are all lovely. I have always been a big fan of pen/pencil and ink, so those are my favorites. It just seems so much easier to shade and create light and dark than with paint. The one of the lily and the rose right beneath it are my favorites. I love the detail on the leaves of that rose.

  2. As a cynic, I wouldn't think you'd expect anyone to be nasty about your work on here and so you probably feel that compliments are a bit hollow and false but, please BELIEVE ME when I say.............Hell's teeth, Ginni - you are one seriously talented artist!
I love the abstract. I love watercolours as well - so much softer and dreamier than oils.
Keep up the much-more-than-good work. I'd love to see some more?
(Thanks for all your kindness over PF - I'll tell him he's got a beautiful, tiny-wee fan).

  3. GINNI!

    My mouth is hanging open.

    You are AWESOME!

    #1 is my absolute favorite.

What I would hang in my bathroom if I had my own bathroom (cuz, you know, it would be girly to da max and stuff...)

    XOXO

  5. These are wonderful. I was an art major too, and now I design hair. My daughter always says I should draw, but I'm my own worst critic. I do love the process of creating, as I can tell you do.

  6. Those are great, GD! My favorite is the third one ... bright and colorful.. but all are very nice. The first one kinda has that whole Georgia O'Keeffe flower-as-vagina thing going! =)
