Never lick a sharp knife...no matter how good the frosting is!

No, I didn't do that...but it's one of the things we learn along the bumpy road of life. I thought of it as I was putting peanut butter on my morning banana. Rosie was begging for some banana (she loves it) and apparently she's gotten spoiled on having the peanut butter on it too. I started to let her lick off the knife (don't gross out, my little Rosie can lick my silverware any day!) and realized what I was doing just in the nick of time! I smooshed the peanut butter off onto my finger and let her lick that instead. I also had to smear some on her pieces of banana before she'd eat them. I wish I had the fortitude to pass something by that I loved, so I could get it just the way I want it to be! Instead, I settle for things the way others want them to be. Maybe I need to learn this lesson from my sweet little, strong-willed doggie-daughter.

I'm tired of the cold. It's been below zero for the past three days when I go to work in the morning. At least the sky was beginning to lighten up a tiny bit on my way in today. It's really tough to get out there in the cold, and even tougher when it's still dark out. I added this file to my desktop so I could check to see when the sun is going to come up and go down everyday. I'm not sure if anyone else gives a rat's patoot when the sun rises, but I thought maybe someone would be interested. It's a cool site! It gives me hope that the sun will be up when I go to work...some day.

Sunrise Sunset

I was disappointed yesterday. I missed out (due to seniority) on an addition to my school bus route. My boss all but promised I'd get it because no one else above me in seniority wanted it. It would have meant more $$$ in my empty pockets. A gal with lots more seniority decided she wanted it after all. Oh well, I will go on...poor but honest. Or at least honestly poor!

I got this recipe from a forum buddy and wanted to share it with someone. I won't make it myself...I'd only end up eating it! I have no photos of this luscious sounding cake so you'll just have to do like I am and imagine it in all it's foodporn glory. As much as I go into spasms of ecstasy over anything lemon, I'd probably eat the whole damned thing!

Lemon Cake

1/2 cup butter
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
3/4 cup milk
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 tbs finely shredded lemon rind (optional)
1 tbs lemon extract
2 tbsp lemon juice

Glaze
juice from half a lemon
dash of lemon extract
1/2 cup powdered sugar

Cream butter and sugar in large bowl.
Add eggs one at a time, beat in very well.Add extract and juice.
Combine flour, baking powder, salt and lemon rind.
Blend into sugar-butter-egg mixture, alternating with milk.
Pour into greased 9 x 5 inch loaf pan.
Bake at 350 degrees for 50 to 60 minutes until cake tests done with knife.
Cool in pan for 5 minutes.
Remove and cover with glaze.
Cool.

Glaze: mix lemon juice and powdered sugar.

Danke Petra!

On Mineral Make Up...I just bid on some of it on eBay. I also got a couple things with "buyitnow". On my quest to become a more girlie girl (TomboysRUs), I want to give it a try. I can't wait to get it...I love the way it looks on other people and it sounds so easy to use. Perfect for someone who only sprays a tiny bit of perfume in the air and walks thru it, grabs the blush brush and makes a quick stab at each cheek, and then puts on some Chapstick** each morning. Easybreezynottoosleezy!

Is anyone else getting spring fever. Even pruning my bazillion roses sounds good to me right now! I have some tiny herbs starting to sprout in my little planters under the grow light. They are making me so homesick for spring and the garden. The little rose I brought in is shooting out leaves like a Gatling gun...so much so that this weekend, I'm going to have to reposition the shelf above with the grow-light on it to a higher place. I'll post pix of them all on GTS.

**Actually I said that for shits and giggles...I don't USE Chapstick, it's got petroleum in it and that's horrid for lips or any of your skin. I really use a shea butter based lip balm. Anything for a laugh! HA

I hope it's warm where you are. If it is, send me warming thoughts. Typing with mittens on is really hard!

  1. I can't really help much, I'm afraid. Sadly, it's not exactly warm here either. Down to just above zero, so not quite as bad as you, and it has at least been sunny the last couple of days.
Peanut butter and banana!! The boys and the dingo had oxtail joints this afternoon. They like them raw and watching Pad crunch one up in a little over a minute is quite frightening. Tilly has to have hers cooked, however. She is only slightly bigger than Rosie and so needs them softened up a bit.
The dingo had the wallpaper off my study wall (AGAIN!) this morning so we have had a sit down and a chat about behaviour and the trials of being a doggy teenager.
Keep warm. The sun will be there soon. X

  2. I am totally the type to lick the knife without even thinking about it. I live on the wild (more like stupid) side! Hehe.

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Not warm here either, but warmer than you and Reg, I guess. It's been mid twenties in the AM and warms up a little during the day.

  4. OH MY GOSH GINNI! I LOVE LEMON CAKE! Dang it...haha.

I'll be making that one, and tellin' Ms. P. Danke as well!

Today we are getting our first "real" winter weather - the little bit of sleet last Friday was just a drop in the bucket. I'll be posting some icy pics tomorrow, check 'em out!

    XOXO girlie

  5. I like these kinds of this and that posts. It's in the 30's here. Cold but not bitter cold. I can't imagine being 0 for days in a row. Brrr. Let the gardening thoughts remind you of the warmth to come. February is our bad month so my thoughts of gardening are far away.
