On being a girly girl.

I've always been a tomboy! I had horses for over 30 years and I could work with the men baling hay, hauling feed sacks, water buckets and wasn't the least bit squeamish about getting my hands dirty or putting them in some of the most disgusting places and revolting messes! I could put up fence, wrestle a 900 lb. colt, slap a shoe back on a horse that threw one. I've always worn T-shirts and blue jeans... even now, that's my uniform of choice at work.

I've had a bit of a revelation. I want to change. I'm going to change. I think I want to be a girly girl, now, in my dotage! I like pretty fingernails, pedicured toenails, awesome perfumes fragrances, and soft things like fuzzy fleece blankets in the winter and pastel capris in the summer. I no longer feel the need (knead??) to get my hands in anything worse than garden dirt and bread dough! And I sure don't want to wrestle any more unruly colts!

Change can be a good thing...a lesson that's been hard-coming for me. I'm embracing change now and that's good. Things never stay the same and it's silly for us to agonize over that most prevalent fact of life. People come and go, it doesn't mean we won't miss them but just that they're in a different facet of their lives. It doesn't mean we have to forget them or never see them again, but just that we have to go with the flow.

I used to get demerits on my annual evaluation from my boss, because I had a hard time changing when my school bus route changed. It freaked me out! I had to get a grip...bus routes change every day! You either go with it or you run from it! I get the highest marks in that area of my eval. now! I made those changes myself. Even us old dogs can learn new tricks now and then! I'm glad I'm realizing all of this, especially in this phase of my life. Thank God for tiny miracles!! And thank God for constant learning!!

A fall rose...just because! It's a sweet-grapefruity-luscious-yummy Abraham Darby.

Thought for the day...

"They say that time changes things, but you actually have to change them yourself."

You are a smart lady Ginni - change when it feels right to you. You had your tomboy phase, now it's time for something new.
    Here's to the possibilities!
