Ruth played this on her blog and I thought it would be interesting. Here are the rules:
* Grab the book nearest you. Right now.
* Turn to page 56.
* Find the fifth sentence.
* Post that sentence along with these instructions on your blog .
* Don't dig for your favorite book, the coolest, the most intellectual. Use the CLOSEST.
Here's mine:
"When at last they were thoroughly toasted, the Badger summoned them to the table, where he had been laying a repast."
It's from The Wind In The Willows by Kenneth Grahame
I got this book to read this past summer and never got around to it. I always try to read a few classics during the summer and this year I chose some kids classics. It's a book I read as a child at my grandmothers when I'd go visit in the summer. It's in a stack of books sitting on my computer desk. It was the one on top!

Sometimes I wonder, "Why is that Frisbee getting bigger?"
And then it hits me.
Love that kind of humor...my sister M will love it too if she stops by here!

We got the coops cleaned and winterized yesterday. That consisted of putting a heat bulb in the chickens' light and hooking up the water heaters. It was kind of a dilemma because the light goes out at night and the heaters need to stay on all the time. We don't have power in the shed where the coops are so we have to run extension cords and use those safety power bars. The ones that kick off if theirs a power surge or a problem with the power somehow.
So as not to get in Andy's way while he was working on the lighting/heating issues (he doesn't get crabby but he's a bit clumsy sometimes and needs all the space he can get...crowding him isn't a good thing and there's not much extra space in the coop shed) I got busy and cleaned the old plants out of the veggie beds. It was a bigger job than I thought. I had to rake up all the old tomatoes and pick up a lot of weedies too. The compost pile is getting pretty loaded. But a little snow and wet will help it settle down. We're done with tree leaves for the season. Anyway, that's done now so I'm happy.
It was cold out there...I came in and realized that I was cold, my nose was cold and my cheeks were rosy. Sometimes when you are busy, you don't know you're getting cold! I went to the basement and played my Nintendo under my fuzzy blanket...until I was thoroughly toasted!
Oh, I haven't read WITW for ages. Thanks for the revisit.
ReplyDeleteCongrats on getting so much done. And yes, it's cold out there.
It's even cold down here in Louisiana, girl! Yesterday morning's temp was 28...
ReplyDeleteStay warm - btw - did I tell you I love your basement? I do!
XOXO
The leaves were too wet to rake/blow yesterday, so I went for a walk instead--and it was cold! I've got a lot of editing work to do today, so maybe I'll try to get to the leaves tomorrow, but they're calling for snow and rain tonight. We'll see.
ReplyDeleteAs I'm sitting here, catching up on my reading (as usual) it's 14 degrees!!! Ack! I never got my leaves up. Oh well.
ReplyDeleteI love the frisbee joke - also - you must have meant 'toasty' right ? cuz I know you just took the whiz-quiz and your not hanging out in the basement getting toasted - right ?
ReplyDeleteI laughed outloud...at least I think it was me
