Chickens are flocking birds. You’d think they would want to take care of their own. But for some reason they don’t. It’s a mystery to me. Yesterday we tried to put our 5 week old chicks in with the 9 and 10 week olds and the bigger ones beat the tar out of the babies! YIKES. I couldn’t stand to watch it so we divided them up for another week or so. I will try again next week when they’ve had a chance to grow a bit more and maybe get a bit more familiar with each other. The babies are back in their mini-coop inside of the big coop. They have a big window of chicken wire so they can all see each other. I thought this would work better than it did. But those big chicks are mean!! At least some of them. One of my Easter Egger chicks and one of my favorites, Maggie, wasn’t too bad. She even laid down with the babies. I sure hope this doesn’t mean that Maggie should be named Mackie. I so want her to be a her, I can’t keep her if she’s a he!! I caught a pic of sweet Maggie with the babies…

How did it get to be June already? It seems like the school year just started and boom! it's over. I guess time really flies when you're having fun, eh?
Oh my.....such a beautiful color! I've only seen clematis in purples and deep dark magenta. This is gorgeous!!
ReplyDeleteMy Green Thumb is posted, won't you join me? Hope your weekend is great so far.
That clem looks like it's going to be a beauty. Can't wait to see it fully open.
ReplyDeleteSorry to hear your big chicks are being bullies. It sounds like the mean girl set in junior high (or middle school, whichever you have in your part of Illinois).
If you have the time and inclination, I've tagged you for a meme about summer over at my blog. If not, it's cool.
I found your name over at Hootin' Anni's . The clematis is lovely. We had chickens (only 5). Do you have an indoor space for them? I was never happy with our housing, because in winter it was hard to keep them warm.
ReplyDeleteoh, and loove the irises! that's what I posted for GTS today! The zoo named, striped type iris have been developed by Kasperek, he lives about an hour north of me in Utah (not that I know him personally, I've just been to his iris garden/business. very cool.
