Then we're going to the White Horse Tavern. They are selling some potted flowers (or is that sotted flowers?) really cheap and I'm going to make some hanging baskets for my hangers on the deck and in the garden. I'm going cheap this year...if you buy hanging baskets at some of the local stores, WOOOO are they expensive!! Up to $20 per basket! No way can I afford to spend that for them! Don't ask me why a tavern sells flowers but they also sell frog legs and mountain oysters. Whatever the reason why they sell these odd sorts of things...I'm going to take advantage of the good prices on the flowers. I'll pass on the animal parts.
Andy's coming down with whatever I had. Poor guy. Regardless of that, he got the weed-feed down on the lawn this morning while the dew was still on the grass. It's supposed to rain Saturday night, so that should be perfect to get the weed killer to do it's job before it gets washed down into the ground. Heaven forbid that we let these dandelions live. Not in this neighborhood! I just hope that Andy is okay and feels better soon. And I hope he isn't getting IT as bad as I had IT. UGH!! But he's such a trooper!
I re-homed** 8 chicks last night, the ones that had revealed themselves as cockerels and the excess pullets. I gave them to the nice chicken lady. She was thrilled. I'm now down to 12 chicks total. That's a manageable amount and if they are all girls, I'll probably keep them. If there are any roos in the bunch, well, I'll deal with that as they make themselves known! There are 8 in the coop and I only have 4 chicks in the brooder now. They kind of freaked out when I took their 8 brothers and sisters away from them and they've been busy re-establishing their pecking order with them gone. But all seems to be peaceful now. Here is a pic of the 4 little babies. I just love the Black sex-link chicks, they are so sweet and don't mind being held. I also kept 2 Blue Ameraucanas. They should be beautiful full grown birds. I just hope they're both pullets!

I know this comes no where near being as cute as...say a brand new litter of baby piglets, but I kinda like 'em anyway!
**This seems to be the new buzz word for getting rid of an animal. Or a car...or a bad boyfriend!
Twelve chickens sounds like a LOT to me. Will they each lay an egg a day? If so, I wish we lived closer and i could buy eggs from you!
ReplyDeleteI'm looking forward to seeing them grow up.
Malc's new little friend are very cute. I never make it as a real farmer. I'd be a guy with way too many pets.
ReplyDeleteI love your chicks, I am so green with envy, the green chicks lay blueish green eggs, don't they? Martha has that kind of chickens I think.
ReplyDeleteActually I could have chickens where I live but I am not sure what the dogs would think of them.

They do look darling, Ginni. And growing so fast!
ReplyDeleteGinni - I love your chickies!
ReplyDeleteHope Andy gets better real soon- and I'm glad you are!
XOXO
I asked Malc the same - can I have one, can I have one, can I have one, huh, huh, huh?
ReplyDeleteWhat are you doing up so early ?
ReplyDeleteRuth, it may end up being a lot (too many...haha) but I'd be happy with half a dozen! They start laying at about 20-21 weeks old and will build up to about an egg every 25 hours. You wouldn't believe the people who have told me they want to buy eggs from me!
ReplyDeleteBrad, I know what you mean...I'd have a tough time eating something I raised. Back in another life, my DH and I raised some chicks for meat...I could cook it and it looked delish, but I just couldn't eat it!!
Yes IGW, those little blue-gray ones in the pic are the kind that lay beautiful blue or green eggs. Makes egg gathering fun!!
Anne, they seem to visibly grow overnight!
Sis, me too, me too and me too!! I'm going to get right on that "E" and "V" thing today...hopefully! I have sort of a wandering mind in my dotage! haha
Reg, if you weren't half a continent and an ocean away...I'd overnight you some chicks. But you need more than one...at least 3! They need a flock!
Brad, hahaha...Rosie woke me up and after petting her for a while, I got up to check my email! It helps me get back to being sleepy, usually. If that doesn't work, I read blogs!
Ginni, I love mongolian bbq! Isn't it yummy?
ReplyDeleteI want one of those piglets and a handful of chickies. You guys are killing me with all these cute animal pictures.
Poor Andy - I hope you guys are both feeling better.
lovins,
fiwa
Fiwa, lunch was divine! I love having the leftovers for supper too! Get thee some farm animals...you'll love it! Andy and I are both much better today. He's talking about working on the new patio again.
