Thursday...the work week is almost over already!

It's been raining off and on all week. We did manage to get some things done tho. We made a chicken tractor and Andy has been working on finishing it all week, between rain storms. He got it painted and all the wire on. We put the chicks in it last night so I could clean the coop. I didn't get any pictures tho because they wouldn't come out of the covered part! We had a terrible time getting them back in the coop when it was starting to get dark! We made a runway and sort of herded them into the coop. It was like herding cats!!! We do know that we need to put a door on the top at the other end from the covered part. Eventually the chicks (probably when they're chickens) will know to go to their coop at dusk and hopefully we'll be able to just open the tractor door and the coop door and let them go on their own. (Hopefully!)

Here's our latest project. It will let the chickens get outdoors without being in danger of all the raptors we have around this area. We have so many hawks and eagles and owls and others!

Here's one of my favorite little girls. She'll jump up and sit all nestled into the palm of my hand. She's a Golden Comet breed chick...looking rather scruffy as she gets her teenage feathers and loses her down. Her name is Lucy...she'll end up with coppery red feathers and that color reminds me of Lucille Ball!! My nickname at work is also Lucy...but no I don't have red hair!

Hope all your chicks are golden!!

  1. Wow, you guys have been working hard getting things ready for your chicks! I should show Natalie your photos - she's thinking of chickens too!

  2. That chick is so sweet. I love the look of her in transition.

And I love the mental image of you and Andy herding those chicks. Thanks for the smile.
