Well, they actually are in the coop, weather be damned. We put them in there this morning. We put up the heat lamps so they will be warm even tho the temps are supposed to be in the 30's tonight. We have a baby monitor so we can hear if anything tries to get in the shed at night. I don't want to lose anymore chickens to coons! They'll be just fine! My house was getting that faint zoo-like quality. I got some zeolite to deal with the zoo-like stuff. It's a natural mineral that kills odor better than anything else in the universe. It's made from volcanic ash that has come in contact with alkaline water. It's safe for pets and people. I've got two porous veggie bags full of it hanging in my shed to keep the coop fresh and pleasant. And I have bags of it in my house in strategic places. I just bought 50# of the stuff!
I also got a 50# bag of food grade diatomaceous earth. I am going to add it to my chicks' bedding and in their dust bowl to keep the flies, mites, lice, and all manner of bugs away. If the chicks eat it, and they will, it will de-worm them too. I am going to start taking it myself as soon as school is out, too. It claims it does wonders for all sorts of bodily things, including cleansing out your colon, making you sleep better, helping you lose weight (yeah, we'll see) and relieving arthritis pain. I don't even want to think of doing that while I'm working. But it has so many benefits to the body, it sure couldn't hurt. I may let you know how that goes!
I got my taxes done and e-filed yesterday. It was a good feeling, but I wish I knew why I always have to push deadlines. Maybe it's the only sense of excitement I get in my rather dreary life! I'm getting a little bit of money back from federal and state but not a lot. I'm just glad to get it done.
I had to get on someone else's bus today and be the mean bus police. I drove by this driver to take one of my kids home and she was parked on the side of the road. I could see her reading the riot act to her kids. When I went back past her about 10 minutes later, she was still sitting there. I told my monitor to watch my kids and I pulled over and jumped on her bus. These kids are just horrid. They have no respect and they're only K-4th graders. They jump all over, won't sit down, scream and yell and the driver has NO control of them. I got on the bus with guns a blazin'!! (So to speak). The poor driver was red-faced and about to cry. I broke my voice yelling at those kids and telling them I was the bus police and I was about to call the real police because they were causing unsafe conditions for their trip home. Hey, you use any trick in the book to get them to calm down. Some of these kids are actually crack babies and many of their parents still are crack-heads. It's a shame they have to be dealt with like that, but what I did helped some. She waited until a bus monitor could be brought to her bus. Boy...I'm so blessed, my kids are a dream compared to hers!
It's been another busy day. Nothing much on TV tonight, so maybe I'll do another pysanky egg!
Perfect blog title. What a day for you! I'm so glad you could help out that bus driver. Relax now.
ReplyDeleteWow, Gin, you had quite the day! It was a good thing you did for that other bus driver. Pat yourself on the back.
ReplyDeleteYou are starting a diatomaceous earth revolution!
ReplyDeleteGinni, I can just see you as the bus police. YOU GO GIRL!
love you -

I'm so glad you were able to step in and be the voice of authority to help out your fellow bus driver. Probably a bull horn on that bus wouldn't be such a bad idea!
ReplyDeleteAnd congrats on getting your taxes in. I'm the opposite of you; as soon as I get the required paperwork, I file (usualy in early Feb) to get it done and outta my hair.
