We finally got it done. We even installed a baby monitor to hear if predators try to invade! (We have a problem with raccoons around here! And they love to wreak havoc in a chicken coop!!) It's got double thick wire ...one layer of chicken wire and one of hardware cloth and 3 entire boxes of staples to hold it all down!! We want our babies to be safe inside!
It's so tight in it's little shed, it's hard to get a pic of the whole thing at once!

Nest boxes...

The roosts where the chickens will sleep at night...

Another shot of the interior...

It still needs some decor (read: bedding, a chick corral, feeders, lights, and um....chicks!) but we'll get to that before the girls go in there!
Lookin good - We've got the coon & coyotes issue too but with the plywood floor you should be good I think. Give Rosie a smootch and a scratch behind the ear for me! Happy Saturday!
ReplyDeleteI'm so impressed that you and your hubby made this! You've been busy!
ReplyDeleteDid you make a Pysanky egg? I remember using a tissue to wipe the warmed wax off the shell and seeing the pattern emerge. I'm tempted to find my tools. One of these days I'll look for my eggs and take a picture for you.
Your comment reminded me of how frustrating it could be. I remember getting so close to being done on an egg only to heat the wax too much and have a big blob fall on the egg.
ReplyDeleteI'm feeling inspired!
*applause* What a good looking home for your new chickies. I hope they love it and lay happy eggs for you :-)
ReplyDeletei love this! did you put electricity in there, too?
ReplyDeleteYes Dawn, there is a heavy duty outdoor power cord and power bar inside the coop. I have to keep a heat lamp on my babies still and they are going out into the coop Tuesday. It's too darned cold to put them out there until then. But as of Tues. it's supposed to be in the 60's for highs and the 40's-50's for lows. Better than today...40's high and low 30's lows! ACK! Besides needing the heat lamp, when they begin to lay eggs (assuming that at least a few of these are girls...LOL) they will need up to 14 hours of "daylight"... either the real thing or artificial... in order for them to lay. Then they'll lay all winter! :)) We'll need a heat tray to put their waterers on this winter too. And a fan, and a baby monitor. LOL Loads of needs for electricity in the coop!! I'm excited for them to get out in the coop!
ReplyDeleteCheryl, I know what you mean about losing control of the wax...LOL...believe me, I know! hahaha See my post today...I posted a pic of my first attempt at pysanky!
Brad, Rosie has been smooched and scratched just for you!!
Anne, I'm hoping for lovely green, blue and brown eggs...but I'll have to wait until sometime in Mid-September...seems like forever!!
Great job getting that coop done!
