It was a day of games.
I had a field trip yesterday and that meant driving one of those huge honking BIGASS buses! I usually drive a special needs bus, sometimes affectionately called a "short bus". And altho I started my career driving a big bus, it's rather daunting to get up into one of those bigass buses after driving what is similar to a minivan (well maybe it's a bit bigger...20 passengers) for a lot of years.

I drive a big bus once in a while when someone else needs to borrow my mini bus for a field trip and I have to trade out with them and take their big bus back to the garage...but driving with a load of kids is a whole different feel! Not to mention the responsibility. I love driving the big buses, however, and enjoyed it yesterday. It was a short trip and we have to stay with the bus after we drop off the kids and just sit there and wait for the field trip to be over so we can take the kids back to the school. I was with two other drivers, Dave and Royce, I think we took a total of 130 kids to the indoor skating rink. Well, I saw Dave go over to Royce's bus and I couldn't figure out what they were doing with their heads together... all the laughing and talking. My curiosity got the best of me so I went over to the bus and they were sitting there with a TV tray table in the aisle of the bus, playing Texas Hold-'em! (Just for the record, it was just for pennies and they had the permission of the office to play. I don't want you to think there was any subversion or actual vice going on here! haha) They begged me to sit down and play with them! I didn't know how to play that type of cards, but I am an old poker player from way-back and after watching for a bit and getting asked repeatedly to join in, it wasn't long before I was sitting there with pennies in hand joining in the game! They were thinking "new money...new blood"...but I told them to remember about beginners luck...they hadn't thought of that! These guys were so easy to bluff!! They think I'm such an innocent lady! HA!!! I kicked their collective asses, Ms. Innocent Me, and had fun doing it! They were both pretty good sports! It was a good thing it was almost time for the field trip to be taken back to school, when it was, because they were catching onto my bluff strategies! I was a good sport and gave them back the pennies I'd won. I know that's not a "guy thing" to do, but I felt better about it! And neither of them had a problem taking back all their pennies!
We took Rosie over to visit dad last night. She needed an outing and dad needed some company. It worked out well for all of us. My dad loves to watch Wheel of Fortune (ugh) but we dutifully watched it with him and played the game. Dad has the beginning stages of Alzheimer's and therefore his pursuits are more simple these days. It was a very nice visit.
Altho I have no Irish blood, at least that I know of (I'm only German, French, English and Welsh), my entire life I have had the feel that I was somehow connected to Ireland. Not long ago, I was at a party and was hypnotized by a real hypnotist and she made us go back in our minds to long, long ago...to another life. I've been hypnotized before a few times and go under very easily. I went back to rather primitive days in Ireland...dressed in a course brown sack dress of some sort, barefoot and in the most gorgeous green rolling field. There were sheep on the hills and a wooded area to my back. There was an elderly man behind me with sparkling blue eyes (I think it was my paternal grandfather...or it looked like his eyes). It was a comforting feeling. I have been kind of haunted by that experience ever since it happened. And I feel an affinity to Ireland, even more than before. But I'm going to forgo the St. Patrick's Day parade! (Interesting footnote: this is the only parade in the USA that goes from one state to another: from Illinois across the Mississippi River into Iowa.)
Oh the games people play!
Foto-Friday...the letter today is "G"...Thanks Sis!
G is for Gadgets...this is my kitchen Gadget drawer...yes, it's a mess, I know!

G is for Games...Andy's favorite pastime

G is for Garlic...oh, and Garlic press! ha

It's PhotoHunter day today...the photo theme to hunt for today is: I Spy
I Spy'd my first robin this week! Glorious Robins!! Spring is only 5 days away!!

Now I'll do this theme correctly! Hahaha...I misunderstood...so this is what I SPY actually meant. Can you see why I took this photo of a bunch of old leaves under a daylily in my garden?

There, that's more like it!
Ok, I must be blind as a bat. Tell me. :) (Great photo, though...and if you tell us, will probably do the V-8 smack.)
ReplyDeleteMine's up here.
Do I see baby bunnies??? If so, I'd've thought they'd run away.
ReplyDeleteAnyhoo...love your robin! Haven't seen one here yet, but there're lots of chickadees and the squirrels are back in full force!
Thx for popping by my place. I'll put you on my list and come back often. :D
Nice shots! Mine is up as well. Hope you can check it out.
ReplyDeleteHappy weekend!
AW! Those baby bunnies are the CUTEST! They look really small...how old do you think they are?
ReplyDeleteGreat job on all your post!
XOXO
They were old enough to have their fur, but they were still pretty tiny and blind. That's why they didn't run away. Stay tuned and in a few days, I'll post pictures of them as they grew up. They were so cute, but did quite a bit of damage in my fenced in garden. Mom left, but it took the babies a long time to find their way out of the fence. It's bunny-proof all except for one board that warped. We're going to replace that one this spring! Altho I did enjoy watching those babies!
ReplyDeleteThere was so much 'this and that' in your post that I don't know what to comment on!
ReplyDeleteI always wondered what bus drivers did between runs or on field trips. Often I see busses parked at Kohl's or Target and figure the drivers shop. It must be hard to be occupied during field trips, unless you're listening to a good book. I think you should get the audio version of Duma Key. I finished it this afternoon. It was so long and I can imagine how heavy the book is.
I do use mineral make-up, and know my best pictures are with the camera held high. Trust me only one pic out of 20 comes out good!
Loved your pics. My gadget drawer looks like yours. Mine has so much stuff I don't use in it and is due a major clean-up.
Have a great night!
I could have mistaken them as leaves too .. until they start mewing...hehehe
ReplyDeleteGood pictures here ;)
Pearl
They are really hard to see.
ReplyDeleteThey're so tiny - the sort of thing you'd only notice if they made a noise or you saw the movement. I hope they don't eat your lilies.
ReplyDeleteginni, i feel an affinity for ireland, too...but i am irish. it is on my list to hit one day.
ReplyDeleteliked your G words!
