Feng Shui is the Chinese art of creating harmonious surroundings and balancing the yin/yang in your home or work place. Even Donald Trump is said to use these principles whenever he builds a new building. It's related to acupuncture which helps align the bodies "chi". (Or "qi" if you prefer, which is the life force that flows in our bodies and our homes)
Usually around Chinese New Year (it begins the end of January or the first of Feb.) I start carrying out the plans I've made to apply feng shui principles to my home, for the year. I get the plan made according to the calendar year and figure out which rooms need which feng shui treatments. I follow a rather complicated set of steps to find out which element or phases (usually represented by colors) each room needs to "cure" it of it's bad chi.
The phases, representing the 5 kinds of prevalent chi, include:
Fire...red, purple, dark orange, pink
Earth...brown, yellow
Metal...White, silver, gold
Water...Blue, black
Wood..Green
These phases are used to balance the chi in the home.
It's all a complicated and takes me a long time to figure out, so I usually begin now to plan for renovating my home decor according to what the feng shui principles are for the particular year. Even tho Chinese New Year is a ways away. You have to do things like make a graph of your home, figure out which way it's facing and then use the charts to plan for remedies for the problem areas.
I truly believe in this works to make your life harmonious and happy. I need some of this in my life.
Now the funny part...I love "Idiot" books and "Dummy" books and feel they are the easiest way to understand any given subject. I use "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Feng Shui" to plan my changes for the year! It helps to light a candle on this difficult to understand art!
Thought for the day...
"It is better to light one candle than curse the darkness."
Chinese Proverb
Girl, that is ambitious! You really redecorate every year?!
ReplyDeletei love this post.
ReplyDeleteI don't redecorate, I just add or rearrange candles, plants, doilies, things that coordinate with the prescribed remedy for each room, according to the charts I figure out. It's not as complicated as redecorating at all. At least not the remedying each room. It's figuring out which remedy is needed for this upcoming year according to the Chinese calendar and the regular calendar. Say if a room needs more fire..you add a burgundy or red candle. I will admit that it makes my house look a bit eclectic at time. LOL I love doing it and it's fun to see if things get better in any given area of my life. So far, so good. One good example of how it worked for me...I met my man shortly after the beginning of Chinese New Year after paying particularly close attention to the romance section of my house! :)
ReplyDeleteThis sh*t really works!!!
