I have a list to complete today. But then I ALWAYS have a list to complete! I make lists. I make lists with obsessive regularity. Mainly because I have a terrible memory. And for some reason what meager memory I have goes south when I have a bunch of jobs I have to complete.
I do the same thing when I shop. I make grocery lists and don't trust people who can go shopping and get everything they need without missing anything, and don't make a list to do it! How do they do that? The only possible way is that they are from outer space and have a memory chip in their brain!! Or maybe they just think?
I make lists when I travel/what to take/what to see, lists when I shop, list for jobs that need to be done, lists for what I've gotten done. I've got lists for what I want, wish lists for things I'll probably never have, lists for Christmas/birthdays/graduations, inventory lists, lists of my photos, lists of the photos I want to take, lists of my roses, lists of roses I want, lists of things to throw out, lists of things to keep. Whew. I even have a list of my lists!
Invariably, when I go to the grocery store, I forget my list (remember that bad memory thing?) and have to go back to get it. Sometimes I think I make a list just for the simple, comforting act of making a list.
My mom was a list-maker too. I used to covertly snicker at her many lists. I remember thinking, "gee Mom, can't you remember ANYTHING?" What goes around, comes around. Truer words were never spoken!
Well, according to my list of the day's jobs, I have 3 left to do out of the 5 original jobs and they require getting up from the computer and getting busy. Not sure I'll get them all done...my lists tend to be very ambitious! Way more than I am! Especially on a lovely Sunday.
Thought for the day:
"`It's my opinion that you never think at all,' the Rose said in a rather severe tone."
Through The Looking Glass
Lewis Carroll
I like lists, too, Gin. But after I make them, I hardly use them! I think it's a way for me to organize my thoughts, then I am good to go.
ReplyDeleteI am a list maker too. I think it's smart - look how much time it saves you.
ReplyDeleteI have a blackboard mounted to the front of my refrigerator with my running grocery list on it - it's the best thing I ever did. I hardly ever forget stuff now.
PS. - Mz Rosie's surgery shot cracks me up! Poor chica!
lists make the world go around.
