Harry Potter Glut

Do you Harry Potter?

Well, 2 weeks ago, with the 7th Harry Potter book's release imminent, I decided I better get caught up. I was about halfway thru #5 then. It had taken me since July 2003 to read and finish HP #5. It was so dark, depressing and almost unreadable to me. I always reserve a copy of the HP books at Border's, like they aren't going to print enough of them or something. HA!

Anyway, I grabbed up #5 and read like a madwoman...finished that... then I got out my Swiffer duster and with gusto, abandon and much anticipation, dusted off my brand-new-been-around-since-the-July-2005-release-date copy of #6 and did likewise! I think I finished it in record-breaking time for me, for a book that long. (I usually read at night, in bed, and fall asleep after a couple paragraphs!)

Now, I'm about 100 pages into #7 and I'm enjoying it. I thought I'd be too burned out on HP to get this far, but I'm still reading and really having a good time with the wizards and wizardesses or witches or whatever the feminine wizards are called!

There's sort of a feeling that goes along with reading these books...like I wanna ride a broom and eat Chocolate Frogs. It's like reading a child's fairy tale or fantasy. Or something fun and frivolous, but yet, there is serious business going on in them a lot of the time and you can't help but cheer for the heroes and heroines of the book!

Anyway, Ms. Rowling has a way of writing that keeps the reader's interest and leaves us panting for more! That being said, HP#7 is supposed to be the last HP book. ACK!! I only realized that a few days ago...was my face red!! I am so media starved, I had no idea she was abandoning us. It makes me want to read fast to see how Harry's life ends/goes on...whatever. And yet I want to savor every morsel she serves up because there will be no more.

Or is this just a good marketing ploy? Wait two years, then announce the big news that she is making a comeback and writing a follow up book to the last one? Or maybe following Ginny and Harry's kids into and thru Hogwarts? (This isn't a spoiler, I'm just guessing here!) Or maybe Rowling will ply her trade to another project and create more fantasy with brand new characters? Or maybe ...well who knows? But I hate that this is the last HP book! Anyone else feel that way?

Whatever she does, reading in bed at night won't be the same...no more dragons, castles, wizards and spells ...it just won't be the same.

Altho, I always try to look on the bright side...at least I won't be having to explain the bruises on my forehead from innocently drifting off to sleep, the book falling from my hands and bonking me in the head! (Those are some seriously heavy books. )

Thought for the day...

"Harry did not usually lie in bed reading his textbooks; that sort of behaviour, as Ron rightly said, was indecent in anybody except Hermione, who was simply weird that way."
